Damaging Scandals: Dems - $$$ Repubs - Morals
Heard a Poly Sci PHD on Ed Schultz today explain her thesis on political scandals: Dems are expected to watch out for the common man and his money so any scandals involving Dems taking bribes or kick backs is hugely bad for them (e.g., Clinton can have extramartial sex but ultimately the public doesn't care while Wm Jefferson has cash in his freezer and it's a big deal). The Repubs are perceived to be champions of morality so Abramoff, Enron, etc. doesn't stick but Foley sends sexually illicit emails and IMs and he's toast and could bring the whole House down.

1. That's a very good analogy
And Democrats have done well in making sure that problem politicians get reprimanded. The Republicans refuse to reprimand their own for fear of backlash.

2. I listened to her too....
Some of it pissed me off.. .. but that's only because I'm probably overly sensitive to criticisms of the Democratic Party..

But then again, some of it made sense too.

I thought she was right on to say that "Foley-Gate" could potentially change the way John Q. Public perceives the Democratic Party forever...
