AP: Signs to Say Negron Will Get Foley Votes
Signs to Say Negron Will Get Foley Votes

The Associated Press
Thursday, October 5, 2006; 8:40 PM

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Supervisors of elections in former Rep. Mark Foley's
district may post signs telling voters that Joe Negron is the Republican
candidate even though it will be Foley's name on the ballot, Florida
elections officials said Thursday.

An e-mail from the State Division of Elections to election supervisors
in counties that are part of Foley's district said that "preferably, the
notice would be placed in every voting booth" and in absentee ballot
mailings. The suggestion angered some Democrats who said it gives
Negron unfair help.

Counties do not need to post such notices, but the agency sent out its
recommendations after being asked by local elections officials,
spokeswoman Jenny Nash said.

1. That's gonna see a court challenge no doubt
Florida law "Prohibits anyone from soliciting a voter at a polling place, early voting site, or within 100 feet of such locations, in an effort to provide the voter with assistance in casting their vote."

This has been interpreted to extend to placing of any signs advocating any single or group of candidates or party. Do the Negron=Foley signs constitute such an advocacy? I don't know but I would bet a judge is going to be asked to rule on it.

5. I'm with you--I hope someone challenges NOW, there's more than enough
time.

Make the fucking RNC do a mailing if they want to pass the word.

2. That doesn't sound right
That's essentially a campaign notice and free advertising for Negron. It's up to the Republican Party and Negron to let people know the situation, not the supervisor of elections.

3. If they do that, then if Negron wins..
Challenge the election for their breaking the law against placing signs.
