"Stop crying in your teacups..." - John Kerry
“Stop crying in your teacups. It isn’t going to change. Get over it.”

That was the response of John Kerry to a liberal who condemned the theft of the presidency by George W. Bush. If the sentiment sounds familiar, that’s because it isn’t original. Kerry borrowed his words from America’s vapid conservative posse for whom chanting the phrase “Get over it” constitutes a dazzling display of wit.

Plagiarizing witticisms from Ann Coulter is not an endearing trait for a potential Democratic presidential nominee. It is one thing for liberals who are still incensed about the stolen election to be treated contemptuously by right wing banshees – it is an entirely different matter to incur such disdain from a man who seeks to be our champion.

-snip-

Siding with Bush on the theft of the election, supporting an illegal war, gutting the Bill of Rights, voting to confirm extremist judges, and misusing education money to buy favorable news coverage for Bush comprise a track record that is unlikely to inoculate nominee Kerry from a crippling third party challenge. His record of accommodating the Republicans will prevent him from easily moving to the middle - where elections are won - because a significant number of liberals will hesitate to throw their support behind a candidate who has so frequently abandoned them.

-snip-

During his years in Washington, he has been a bloodless technocrat who has watched passively as three Republican presidents have lied and cheated and broken the law. He was a warrior in the battle against Vietnamese communism, but he has been a conscientious objector in the fight against American fascism. While he was undeniably brave in opposing his enemies on the battlefield, his conduct in the Senate has frequently been craven. He has not been a leader, he has been a follower, and all too often he has followed the wrong party.

The upcoming presidential campaign will require extraordinary vigilance on the part of the Democratic nominee. Bush is a con man who will tell Americans anything they want to hear. The Democrat cannot win by politely reciting policy positions – he must repeatedly confront his deceitful opponent in order to show voters that they have been swindled. It will be an arduous process requiring an advocate who can persuasively convey a sense of righteous indignation, and John Kerry has never demonstrated that he is capable of summoning the indignation necessary for the task at hand.

Read it all here.

In one of his rants he claims Kerry never stood up against any Republican president. In fact, kerry permanently SCORCHED the legacies of Nixon, Reagan and Bush when he stood up to them all in history making ways.

Bush2's legacy will be permanently altered in November.

73. SCORCHED their legacies???
oh yeah, that's why Bush and Reagan's names are no where to be found on public buildings: Bush CIA headquarters, Bush Airport in Texass (typo intended), Reagan National Airport (in DC/VA), the Reagan Federal Building (which dwarfs many others)...

Reagan remains adored by many, Bush Daddy is viewed as an honorable man. Yeah, that's some scorching.

Did he or did he not tell everyone who was upset over the stealing of the 2000 Election to "Stop crying in their teacups"?

I wonder if John Kerry will be crying in his teacup when he loses to Bush just like Gore did.

http://www.thestate.com/mld/state/5635691.htm

"Presidential candidate John Kerry attempted Monday to light a fire under a lethargic Democratic Party that he said had gotten lazy the past few years.
"Addressing party activists at a luncheon at Claflin University, the Massachusetts senator urged the party faithful to go out and fight for their beliefs.

"'The way to do it is to get mad, to get angry, to get active, to get out there and get off your ...,' he said to prolonged cheers, without completing the thought. 'Get going.'

"Kerry's sermonette was prompted by a questioner dismayed by the outcome of the 2000 presidential election won by George W. Bush and the drubbing Democrats took in the 2002 election.
"Bush lost the popular vote to Democrat Al Gore, but captured the electoral vote after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in the GOP's favor by denying a vote recount in Florida.

"'Just because the Supreme Court made the wrong decision in 2000 doesn't mean we have to live with it for the next six years,' Kerry said."

Kerry:
"'The way to do it is to get mad, to get angry, to get active, to get out there and get off your ...,' he said to prolonged cheers, without completing the thought. 'Get going.'

I'll ask again...
Then why hasn't Senator Kerry taken the corrective action of signing on to S 1980, the senate bill that would require a paper trail for electronic voting?

Are you so unfamiliar with Kerry's actions on Vietnam, BCCI and IranContra that you would agree with Podvin that Kerry never stood up against any Republican president?

Kerry was standing up to Bush2 well before Dean. His attacks on Bush were too substantive and damaging to Bush for the press to give them an airing.

Dean;s rants were entertaining so the press gave him the stage for most of last year.

I'm not crying in my teacup, but I do find it amusing that Kerry would snipe at those who are angry at what Bush has done. I'm most certainly not crying in my teacup -- in fact I never was, I just set out to remove Bush from office. Of course Kerry in that interim decided to support Bush most of the time, so unfortunately for him he fell into the same category.

It's not about Howard Dean for me...he just happened to be the one that was saying the things that resonated for me. What has transpired so far in the Democratic primaries has simply steeled me to become more involved in efforts to remake the Democratic Party into an organization that is accountable to PEOPLE and not Washington politicos and big money contributors.

Kerry is a Washington politician with a 20 year history and that's going to bring along some baggage along with it. Hell, he IS a big money contributor. His strategies for election and the Presidency may be different, but that doesn't mean he's just another part of the problem.

When people give Kerry none of the benefit-of-the-doubt when he says things like "get over" the 2000 election fiasco, that irritates me. Here is a Democrat with a record that closely follows Ted Kennedy's, and all of a sudden he's plagarizing Ann Coulter.

44. Two Choices
Seems to me there are two choices here. Those who are not Kerry supporters can whine and bitch and moan if he gets the nomination - continue to tear him down and stay home on election day or help re-elect Bush OR We can all work for the same goal - and that is removal of the Bush Administration from power. This is all about power not individuals.

Choice 1: You can nominate Kerry and lose the General Election, and thus you will re-elect Bush.

Choice 2: You can nominate Dean or Clark and defeat Bush in November.

Those are your choices. You have to live with the consequences.

62. It 'implied' it
because thats what the post that started the thread implied as well. There are still TWO choices. You support the Dem nominee or you support the other side. NOT voting supports the other side.

78. yeah but
we're not down to Kerry v Bush YET. I agree that's a no-brainer. But we should not throw in the towel to Kerry before all Democrats have a chance to have their say. Super Tuesday is weeks away. This get behind Kerry now theme is maddening and undemocratic.

I don't support Kerry but I will if/when I have to.

60. My Defense, which I suspect will be promptly ignored
Okay. The election is stolen by the Supreme Court and Katherine Harris in Florida. That I'm sure we can all agree on -- I'm sure we've all read Greg Palast.

Now, three years into his term and with November coming in the near future, how viable is it to push for investigations? While it is a FACT that the election was not legitimately won by Dubya, it is also a fact that most people have either forgotten or don't give a fuck about it.

And unfortunately, a bunch of angry dudes with yardsigns probably can't make them care.

This, really, is moot. If you're going to slander a candidate, talk about exporting jobs to India or something.

82. You don't get over a coup d'etat.
Edited on Sun Feb-08-04 05:29 AM by Zhade
Leaving aside for the moment what Kerry may or may not have said, I'd like to point that out.

No one who loves and believes in the Constitution should "get over" the coup. Ever. Should we focus solely on it to the exclusion of everything else? Of course not.

But we must never forget, or it will happen again. And again. And again.

That's how you lose elections. Take into account when Kerry made the comment.
