1. Deify the darlings of the party: Dubya claims to talk to God, Santorum is doing the Lord's bidding, "the party of family values", Saint Ronnie, etc.

2. Demonize their opponents: compare Hillary to Lucifer, blame every ill in this country on Bill Clinton (even today), declare the evilness of "sodomites", etc.

When you are dealing with a base that wants to be fooled, it's tempting to keep on repeating the same old lies and to concoct new stories.
