Can Powell be turned?
Before you go off, I have no use for the guy at all. He sold his soul when he lied to the UN. Actually, that was the public sale. The actual deal was inked when he worked for Poppy ......

But what if ...... for whatever reason, he's amenable to being courted by our side. He knows where more than a few of the bodies are buried. In fact, I bet he knows where some of the dismembered body parts are.

**If** one accepts he's being sincere in his oppostion now (and who knows, but this whole thing may be little more than political theater for the ignorant voters they want to cast sham votes for them) can he be turned? Should he be courted?

I've never had a great deal of respect for this guy, but if he were to run and start talking, I might classify him once again as at least human.

3. Working for Poppy was okay.
But, he HAS sold his soul to the Dark Side too many times.

I understand his not resigning with every tiff - such as the disagreement he had with the administration early on about North Korea. He cited George C. Marshall as an example. BUT, when he realized he could not be a moderating influence, he should have bailed. He didn't.

7. That's certainly been his history ...... but he's older now .....
.... and as we sense our mortality, we start to soften .... or harden. There've been many late life epiphanies.

5. Possibly.

On Countdown, Jonathan Turley suggested that Powell, the consummate team player, was rather surprisingly objecting to Bush's torture policy because he is concerned about the impact on the military. I also think Powell pretty much sold his soul, but there might be a few shreds of conscience that now nag at him. As a longtime military veteran, possibly this is where he feels he has to draw a line. And maybe he finally feels enough remorse for the whole horrible mess that he might be inclined to turn on Bush in a big way.

8. No
They own him.

See Massacre, Mai Lai.

If he acts poorly, they will flush him down the toilet with Pentagon documents. Remember he rose through the ranks largely because he was one of the officers in charge of covering up Mai Lai.

He only appears moderate when standing next to the crazies. He is still a first class war criminal asshole.

And let's not forget his lie fest at the UN leading us into this Iraq debacle.

I will say this, maybe his opposition to torture is some attempt at atonement.

Still goin to hell, Colin. Just a shallower level than your cronies.

15. If he ever was near being turned, he'd end up more like this...
If he ever was near being turned, his Republican "friends" would
make sure he'd end up looking more like this:

10. Unfortunately, he can't
It also runs in the family, as in his son Michael Powell, the ex FCC Chairman.

Powell is not a boat rocker. He is a soldier first. He does not take risks !
