Edited on Fri Feb-06-04 06:30 PM by chimpymustgo
BUSH SUPPORTERS GREET EDWARDS

(02/06/04) A small group of supporters of President Bush were among the hundreds of Virginia Tech students who turned out Friday morning to see U.S. Sen. John Edwards during a campus visit.

The students held up Bush-Cheney signs behind Edwards as he entered the room with television cameras rolling.

-snip-

"Hold those signs up, if you don't mind," Edwards said.

The students eagerly did.

"That's who's leaving the White House," Edwards shot back, drawing huge cheers from the crowd.

I just saw the clip on the news. Edwards was fantastic - he just laughed at the disrupters.

How to handle hecklers with grace and humor and make them wish they never bothered. He is so good.

it's hard not to smile when he's smiling. you can see it in the audience shots.

it's a shame kerry doesn't have that ability to uplift people's spirits.

It's always been a dumb idea. Edwards would be better served being Attorney General.

And by the way, Kerry doesn't have the nomination

All will be in play with Edwards. And if Bush has to fight for those, we win anyways.

75. and to give them that much credit ...
is to serve them some sort of special status. I for one haven't seen that play out on tv, nor do I care to. What I do get from reading about here is, they had a few snot nosed brats trying to get some bragging rights for tv time and Edwards as a proven master of the tongue got a quick "back at ya, jab" to them. How wonderful!

Can we now focus in on showing what experince Edwards has in leading the greatest country in the world both in domestic and world affairs?

Win or lose this time, I think Edwards will be a big presence on the national stage for many years to come.

The more you see and hear him, the more you like him.

He'd be an excellent president, but I'm afraid a lot of people would say he needs more "experience." I think the opposite is true, but I wish he'd change his mind and not rule out running for VP - he's an obvious choice for either of the other current frontrunners.

Ashton Kutcher - you've got damn good taste in candidates!

37. Because we are flubbing the priorities due to 9/11
Everyone in this thread is making light of this incident, describing it as cute or smooth, etc. I have a completely different take, finding it absolutely tragic that we have blatant evidence like this yet are ignoring personal skills and charm to embrace a nominee who simply will not connect with the American public.

There will be dozens of anecdotal episodes throughout a general election cycle, and rightly or wrongly they will mean much more to the swing voters than Vietnam or Kerry's supposed advantage on national security issues.

52. I agree with you.
The base on either side isn't subject to that sort of thing, but the people in the middle are. The same people voted for Reagan and Clinton, both. It wasn't because of their policies. They are the same ones that followed the media, believing how wooden and uncomfortable and brainy Gore was.

The cruel joke is going to be on those who think they are voting for the most electable person by voting for Kerry. If he's the nominee, I really, really, really hope that I'm wrong. I think Clark or Edwards would either one have a better shot at getting elected in the GE.

I'm with you on how tragic it is. Perhaps there is still time for people to wake up.

Edwards has my primary vote thanks to this morning's DU news. 25% and rising-- maybe he can even win. I'll be satisfied to see him as VP but think Kerry *really* needs him in the fall. He wins the likability contest over any of them.

But even after Kerry and Edwards are in office I will never be able to forgive their IWR votes.

Let me see he skipped Iowa which was a stupid mistake he flip-flopped on abortion he barley won OK by a few hundred votes. Clark tries to attack Edwards by saying he is not for veterans and by looking at Edwards voting record for veterans shows that Clark is wrong.

59. this is what you consider "experience " in leading our country?
"Except wait a minute Edwards beat the incumbent Republican Faircloth in the Senate in a mostly Republican state" ( your quote ).

Sad part is, Edwards probably thinks so also!

Clark is totally inexperienced at this slimey game of campaigning. He chose to stay on message and get facts out. Something didn't help with that though. He was blackedout from most of the media coverage and smeared terribly by repukes, media and guys like Kerry and Dean. This doesn't change the man that he is, a brillant future minded heartfelt candidate that has has shown his great leadership ability.

What you should be asking yourself is, why does a guy like Edwards have to post on his website that he finished "TIED" for first in Ok. even though he lost by over 1200 votes. You see Clark dsoesn't need to CREATE stories to get others attention he along with his team and supporters point them in the direction of a full body of information detailing is overwhelming accomplishments!

Do you live in my state? Do you know who Faricloth is? Clark started this slimy campaign anyway. Clark beat Edwards by a few hundred votes in OK. Clark starts attacking Edwards on his Veterans voting record. So the fact is that Clark started this slimy campaign.

62. Edwards has the media playing up his farse.
The media is doing everything possible to lower Clarks numbers have for a long time now. To say Clark started some kinda of smear is nuts.

For a guy like Edwards to "INSULT" Clark by saying he was "TIED" with Clark in Ok. is an outrage! Now that Clark is presenting the facts on Edwards and Kerry's records they along with major help from the media will try to twist is words into some sick plot to further undermine him.

These are the FACTS, not the ones you or your candidate or the media HELPING your candidate will acknowledge!

Get back to proving Edwards expereince in leading our country on both domestic and world affairs issues. I know you will be unable to do so because nothing exists! More facts!

66. jpgpen...you make a good point.
The problem is: sure, it's great to have experience and all that, but first you have to win. And...if, as you say "Clark is totally inexperienced at this slimey game of campaigning." then he's not going to win. Gore also was not a good politician or campaigner. If you went by his intelligence and experience, he should have won by such a landslide that it would have been impossible to steal the election. But, sadly, it wasn't enough.

We need someone who is experienced in all areas. Among his many attributes, Edwards experience as a trial lawyer is exactly what is needed to deal with Bush and his gang. The fact that he can take the south is another plus.

70. Sorry but I must say
you have a disconnect many show over and over again. It's this so called process and the way we elect candidates that is destoying our country. They are dictating to us how they want us have the election process go. To hear the media talk of it you would sware it's some kinda game.

Having our country lead the world in compassion and morals isn't a game to me, it's the backbone of who we should be. To go along with a mindset the media and Washington insiders want is nothing more then weakness!

That's all there is to it. Whether you like lawyers or not, the courtroom is a wonderful place to learn how to express ideas and handle a crowd.

I don't know if he has a chance to win the nomination, but every time that I hear him speak, he impresses me more and more. At the very least I'd love to see him cross examine and tear apart Cheney in a VP debate.

74. "whether you like lawyers or not"
there's nothing at all dishonorable about being a lawyer. john edwards has helped a lot of people get justice for injuries they suffered at the hands of moron doctors, uncaring hospitals, and big corporations. yeah, he got rich doing it. so? see if the parents of that little girl who got her intestines sucked out think he makes too much money.
