Is boring necessarily bad? Gephardt as Kerry's VP makes sense
A lot of people like boring. The greatest proportion of voters are retirees and older persons. Young people don't vote and are fickle. You can't count on them. Look at how quickly they've abandoned Dean in the primaries?

Gephardt has strong labor ties. And the midwest, not the south, will be the battleground this Fall. If we hold all the rust-belt Gore states and adding Gephardt with his long labor ties, surely helps, and also add Missouri. Guess what? We win without winning any southern state.

Vice Presidents aren't supposed to be more exciting and charasmatic than the President. They are SUPPOSED to be boring and add stability to the ticket and ideally help bring states and electoral votes.

Cheney doesn't light up any rooms when he speaks.

1. Boring? How about sell-out-fellow-Democrats-opportunistic
finger-in-the-wind empty suit? I'd take boring any day over Gephardt.

3. He was against NAFTA and other trade agreements
that siphon american jobs.

You can't say that about Dean and others.

War isn't the only issue. Most people care more about their jobs.

7. I agree
For all of Gep's mistakes in the IWR, he is at least partially redeemed by offering a trade plan that greatly differs from mainstream Democrats.

17. That would be okay, if we had an interesting top of the ticket.
But if we don't, someone has to draw the apolitical voters to our side, or we lose.

I can nto comprehend why the DNC would do this to us. Is it Gephardt's TURN??? Is that it? ______ help us all!

18. Why would Kerry
want let's say Edwards as VP, who is more telegenic and charasmatic than he is?

The VP can't overshadow the Prez and Edwards probably does.

23. Good point. You are making the obvious case
against nominating Kerry. The top of the ticket should be a person who can NOT be overshadowed by his VP, whomever it is. That is my problem with Kerry; almost anyone he picks will do just that, except Gep. Is this who we want to send up against the BFEE???

9. yes it does make "sense"
I would wager any amount of money that the VP choice will be more offensive than Lieberman of 2000.

10. If the Democrats want to be known as the party for war, why not Gep?
President, House Leadership Agree on Iraq Resolution

President George W. Bush along with bipartisan leaders from the House and Senate announced the Joint Resolution to authorize the use of the United States Armed Forces against Iraq. "The statement of support from the Congress will show to friend and enemy alike the resolve of the United States," President Bush said during the announcement in the Rose Garden, Wednesday, October 2, 2002. 11. He could do a lot better
People oversell Gephardt's strength. Union support just doesn't carry as much weight as it used to. Are we all forgetting the Iowa knockout already?

Besides, the unions are so anti-Bush, it doesn't matter who the Dems run. They'll back the ticket.

So what does Gephardt really add? Not a whole helluva lot. And he's saddled with some of the same superficial problems Kerry has: too Washington and too stiff.

If Kerry tops the ticket, he'll need to pick a sidekick who punches it up a bit more.

Gephardt's an old warhorse. Kerry would need a stallion.

13. Boring isn't the issue.
He was rejected by the voters. All he had was union support. Anyone would be a fool to put him on the ticket as VP.

I think Gephardt let Bush bully him. We need someone who is perceived as strong and macho in my opinion.

21. Odds
The odds are slim to nil that ANY of the current Prez Canidates will be tapped to be the VP canidate. It just doesn't happen that way.
