The Primaries are over with, time to get the democrats elected
And I'm going to ask a big favor which I'll still probably get flamed.

Background - I live in Delaware and up until about 2-3 weeks ago, I had no problem with Tom Carper as my senator. I mean, he was a bit more to the center than Biden but he hit the main issues that I support and even if he didn't he's my democratic nominee for senator. But then a few weeks ago Lieberman lost the primaries and opted to run as an independant. Biden was on-board immediately for supporting Lamont but Carper endorsed Lieberman. Then again Carper & Lieberman are both DLC, Biden is not.

So I'm really pissed at Carper and unfortunately his announcement that he was supporting Lieberman came too late for another candidate to be fielded against Carper. So that's my choice this November.

But as irritated as I am with Carper, it'll be a cold day in hell before I vote for any other candidate other than Tom Carper and I would encourage all other democrats in Delaware to grit your teeth and get the guy re-elected. I'm here for the Democratic Majority and I know that keeping Tom Carper as our senator here in Delaware will add to that majority. Who knows, perhaps if Lieberman pulls off the win in November someone like Tom Carper will keep Lieberman at least caucusing with the dems if the partyline split is down the middle.

Now having said that, I know that there are some democrats out there running for office that perhaps are not in agreeance with all the issues you support. But the primaries are done and many of these candidates did have opponents and yet they won.

I don't know if we can get a democratic majority in the Senate, but we need to try. And even if we don't get the majority we need more than 3 votes leeway to help ensure that our filibusters work. There are some great democrats out there that I adore - Kerry, Kennedy, Boxer, Leahy, Levin, Feingold(well he's good, still ticked about the Ashcroft/Roberts vote) and even for me, Biden (hey I'm from DE - so sue me). But in order to get some of these good democrats in chairperson's seat controlling the committee we need a majority and for like 99% of you here at DU - you're on board with me.

So here's a favor and flame me all you want if you don't like it. We're the Democratic Underground and we're here to support Democrats. If there is a candidate out there that you don't like ESPECIALLY if you don't live in that state, then try not to be disrespectful to those who support the candidate, especially if they are actual voters from the state. There are so many great races happening at 2006 that all of us should find at least one race that peaks are interest with a great democratic candidate that we want to see elected.

Ok, have fun

2. It just had to be said
I just saw a post in the MD thread trying to call Cardin 'conservative' and alienating the African-American vote (Cardin is white, his opponent Mfume is African-American). Yet I looked up Cardin's voting record and this guy is definitely progressive - pro-choice, pro-environment and didn't vote for the War Resolutions. Turns out the negative posts came from someone who wasn't even from Maryland.

I'm not trying to dissuade free speech here, I'm just pointing out the obvious - there are hundreds of races out there that we can get on board with and support, why focus on the one dem you don't like especially if you are not from that state?

4. I totally understand the sentiment.....
I was on a thread earlier today where a "newbie" from Arkansas was advocating that Pennsylvania Dems sit this one out? And a couple of DU oldtimers were encouraging him, which in my view is tantamount to supporting the incumbent who is a Republican. It truly baffles the mind at times. This is not a time for divisiveness, and I don't wanna have to fight with Greens & Repubs. We're Democrats, and that's who I'm here to support. See here:

6. Lynn ......
..... I think I know the thread(s) you're talking about ....... but no matter.

The issue of race is real in Maryland. Its isn't on the front pages, but its on a simmer, to be sure. Please give this thread of mine a look for some insight from this clown's perspective.

Afterthoughts instead of afterglow .... the primary's over

As to your main point ...... getting behind the nominees and working our UNITED asses off for them ...... I could could not agree more. Our lives depend on it.

5. I completely understand as well
Being in Colorado Springs, Salazar is far better than any Republican that would be put up against him. Even with his support of Lieberman and various other issues I have with him. I'd take him any day over the other options in the district.
