Texans, who is better? Bell or Kinky?
Edited on Tue Sep-12-06 08:36 PM by Hippo_Tron
From what I've read about Kinky and seen on his website, his issue positions are pretty progressive. Public financing of elections, treatment over prison, increase teacher pay and stop pointless standardized testing, health insurance for uninsured children. He's also made statements hinting support of gay marriage and a moratorium on the death penalty until we can be sure that no one is wrongfully executed.

Bell seems like he's a typical middle of the road Democrat who doesn't want to say anything that might piss off anybody in a red state.

This being said, my knowledge of this race is very shallow and I'm wondering what people who know more about it (particularly Texans) have to say. I'm also not advocating that people vote for Kinky over Bell, I'm just curious about this subject.

2. Who said "Negro ... is a charming word"?

3. Who said "Mexico is not a poor country"?

4. Who said "good fences make good neighbors, and, Mr. Fox, help us build that fence"?

5. Who said "I will divide the border into five jurisdictions, assigning one Mexican general to each and providing a trust fund for that general"?

6. Who said "all of these politicians are afraid of offending Hispanics ... I want the border off the evening news until we get something resolved"?

7. Who said the Tejano protesters marching in favor of immigration reform are "half playing hooky"?

9. Who said we should grant "amnesty for hard-working illegal immigrants already in this country"?

10. Who said "I'm not pro-life, and I'm not pro-choice. I'm pro-football"?

11. Who said "I have mixed feelings on parental notification" about abortions for girls under the age of 18 and "on the counseling requirement, I'm not sure, but I know the less I talk to social workers, the better. No issue with the public-funding restrictions, but I would want to investigate further."?

12. Who said "you uppity women I don’t understand why you gotta go and try to act like a man"?

13. Who said "I am not anti-death penalty"?

14. Who said "let's do away with the death penalty"?

15. Who said of Bush's Iraq War "I agree with most of his political positions overseas, his foreign policy"?

16. Who said what Bush has "been doing in the Near East and in the Middle East, he’s handling that well, I think"?

17. Who said my "voting record doesn't look strong, but my voting record is better than Dick Cheney's"?

18. Who said "I am going to see non-denominational prayer and the Ten Commandments put back in the schools"?

19. Who said we should turn over public school physical education classes to corporations and charge them whatever they will pay to "get their hooks into the athletes while they’re still young"?

20. Who said "I've been stoned a lot of times ... and I don't regret any of it ... I quit doing cocaine when Bob Marley fell out of my left nostril"?

There are links to sources for all these quotes over at http://stopkinky.blogspot.com .

15. comments on kinky quotes
1. Who said we should punish criminals by sending them to prison and making them "listen to a Negro talking to himself"? that one is bad

2. Who said "Negro ... is a charming word"? depends on the context. sounds like part of a joke

3. Who said "Mexico is not a poor country"? it isnt. it has lots of oil. many of its people are poor but the country itself is rich. just highly concentrated wealth

4. Who said "good fences make good neighbors, and, Mr. Fox, help us build that fence"? I find it funny.

5. Who said "I will divide the border into five jurisdictions, assigning one Mexican general to each and providing a trust fund for that general"?

6. Who said "all of these politicians are afraid of offending Hispanics ... I want the border off the evening news until we get something resolved"?

pretty much true. all politicians are afraid of angering the hispanic vote. hispanics are a large voting block in the country.

7. Who said the Tejano protesters marching in favor of immigration reform are "half playing hooky"?
not a great way of saying, but many probably had skipped work.

8. Who said "every crazy redneck in Texas is already supporting me"? he is making a comment/joke

9. Who said we should grant "amnesty for hard-working illegal immigrants already in this country"?
something that is a very good idea

10. Who said "I'm not pro-life, and I'm not pro-choice. I'm pro-football"?
it called humor. a funny line.

11. Who said "I have mixed feelings on parental notification" about abortions for girls under the age of 18 and "on the counseling requirement, I'm not sure, but I know the less I talk to social workers, the better. No issue with the public-funding restrictions, but I would want to investigate further."?
ok good plan

12. Who said "you uppity women I don’t understand why you gotta go and try to act like a man"? comedy line

13. Who said "I am not anti-death penalty"?

14. Who said "let's do away with the death penalty"?

15. Who said of Bush's Iraq War "I agree with most of his political positions overseas, his foreign policy"? depends when said it ,but not a good side of the kinkster

16. Who said what Bush has "been doing in the Near East and in the Middle East, he’s handling that well, I think"?

17. Who said my "voting record doesn't look strong, but my voting record is better than Dick Cheney's"? probably very true :P

18. Who said "I am going to see non-denominational prayer and the Ten Commandments put back in the schools"? that plays well in the deep south. may be just being a policitian there

19. Who said we should turn over public school physical education classes to corporations and charge them whatever they will pay to "get their hooks into the athletes while they’re still young"? another comedy line

20. Who said "I've been stoned a lot of times ... and I don't regret any of it ... I quit doing cocaine when Bob Marley fell out of my left nostril"? well at least unlike * he isnt afraid to admit he snorted coke

Not Comedy Central's Man of the Week. He's a loony far-right Libertarian. The idea of having this clown govern anyone at all is absurd.

Friedman is a bigot who's running b/c he's a self promoting shill. He's splitting the anti-GOP vote in the first election in a dozen years that we might win.

Vote safe--Vote Bell. I don't live in TX but this guy seems off his rocker who is just a political opportunist--he throws out a bunch of wild shit and sees what sticks to the wall.

21. Kinky is a vote against
the same old same old and he'll get some votes.

He might get mine.

And not because of his stance on anything.

Basically because he's an independent. And because he's never held office.

Oh, and Bell started talking religious shit the other day.

I'm sick of all these people saying one thing and doing another... talk against the patriot act, but vote for it, etc, etc.

At this point, I'm more anti-incumbent than I am anything else, and I'm basing that not on party, not on what they are saying, but 100% on how they have voted in the past. Luckily, most of "my" incumbants are republican.

22. In today's Texas, the "same old same old" is Republican.
And DU is a Democratic board.

I've been a fan of Kinky for many years--as a writer of songs & books. But that doesn't mean I'll help out the Republicans by throwing away my vote. Hey--Nader did some fine work as a consumer advocate. Too bad about his later career.
