Kerry is visiting a conservative school in TN

On Sat. morning in Nashville, Kerry will be having a rally at a conservative Christian institution, Belmont University, a school funded by and affiliated with the conservative Tennessee Baptist Convention, an arm of the radical fundamentalist Southern Baptist Convention. Can we expect Kerry to speak out against the school's refusal to hire openly gay or Jewish (!) faculty, or accept openly gay students?? There are no minority scholarships at Belmont, (a former Southern plantation--read, slaves--that still has a lawn jockey statue on campus) and virtually no minority faculty. Will he speak out about Southern Baptists' record of hatred while he's on their turf, or their endorsement of the marriage constitutional amendment ?? Will the press ask him his feelings about the radical conservatism he's courting?? Or does John Kerry get to continue telling people what they want to hear, everywhere he goes...

1. And will people who are against him
be held behind barbed wire miles away from the building?

I've no idea about Belmont's philosophy and how it relates to its curriculum, but of all the colleges, Belmont student population is among the most liberal and least elite. Its primary draw is its music program. If it doesn't accept openly gay students, the body is the most androgenous of any you'll see around town.

7. I agree.
Belmont is affiliated with the SBC but I have known many people who went there and have never known anything extremely radical to happen there. It is sure not Bob Jones U.

16. Two of my steps are
Belmont grads and they're Jewish.

You have to take a couple of Bible classes but other than that there are no requirements in the curriculum that are relate.

It has the best music business degree program in the country.

8. You Go Clem,
they are all counting on us to give up. Don't give up, it is the right thing to do.

If doing the right thing was easy, then eveybody would do it.

Sometimes knowing what is right just has to be enough.

12. So, you won't prove your other claims because you know who I am?
What does that mean?

Why are you here making posts you don't want disputed or you refuse to back up with facts?

17. "I happen to know who you are"
Is that some kind of threat? If it is, take it back and apologize immediately.

6. Belmont is hardly conservative..
Really it's more liberal, even if it is Baptist supported. My daughter has been accepted this year, and she's going because Belmont has one of the best music departments in the country. Mike Curb of Curb records donated a new $50 million gymnasium, called, strangely enough, the Curb Center. Having lived here for the past 30 years, I can attest to Belmont's integrity and progressiveness. Now, Libscomb University on the other hand is a very strict Church of Christ affiliated school.........I'll go out on a limb and forecast many more Kerry supporters than hecklers tomorrow morning.

14. Kerry is visiting the Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD
which didn't use to admits blacks or women and sits on a site close to a former slave auction! Will he speak out against the Naval Academy's record of hatred while he is on their turf or the record of Annapolis in promoting the slave trade?
Will he mention the state song of Maryland, which was written as a protest against Abraham Lincoln's use of federal troops to occupy the state in 1861 to keep Maryland from seceding? Will the press ask him about the radical conservatism he is courting? Or does John Kerry get to continue telling people what they want to hear, everywhere he goes.....

See how much fun and inane this kind of "analysis" can be?
