Dean supporters only, please. Letter to Terry McAuliffe (Petition)
To:
Terry McAuliffe
Democratic National Committee Chairman
430 S.Capitol St. SE
Washington, DC 20003
February 5, 2004

Dear Chairman McAuliffe,

In recent days I have heard you give interviews in which you called into question President George Bush’s service in the National Guard. In my view you are prematurely defining issues for the general election that clearly promote John Kerry’s candidacy for the Democratic nomination. I am very disappointed that you have chosen this particular time to speak out but nevertheless, if you are going to be evenhanded, you should also point out that George Bush has not delivered on healthcare, an issue that Governor Dean has a record of delivering to residents of Vermont as well as issues that are central to the platform of each of the remaining candidates. Furthermore, I am disturbed that you have asked candidates that have not won a primary to consider the viability of their candidacy. This is an insult to thousands of Democrats who have yet had their opportunity to vote in their state’s primary.

I am a committed supported of Governor Howard Dean’s candidacy for President of the United States. In my view he is not only the best Democratic candidate but the most electable . As Democrats we should be united in our determination to defeat George Bush and eventually pull together to support the eventual nominee of our party. If you continue to make statements that I believe are an effort to sway undecided voters to vote for John Kerry, I will find it difficult, if not impossible, to support him if he is in fact the nominee. I am respectfully asking you to return to being silent and neutral and to allow the primary process to select our nominee. This process has barely begun and it is a disservice to voters and our great country for a person in your position to influence the outcome in any way.

Sincerely,

Dean Supporter Signature - Please click here

9. I hope so
my optomism is at a low but I'm hoping Washington state can pull off a big win for Dean. I have had a bunch of new callers and our meet-up was the biggest yet. But we are working against the machine..

7. the most electable candidate...?
The most "electable" is the one who gets the most votes. Dean is not electable for the majority of voters in 9 states so far, and lagging behind in the next few on the list. I think we have a real good shot at getting Bush out precisely because Dean will never be the nominee.

16. "Electable" for liberalDems is not "electable" for most of the electorate.

Sorry, but there just aren't enough progressives in America to assure that Kerry will be in the Oval Office this time next year. Dems seriously need to nominate Dr. Dean to pull in the fiscal conservative and moderate Republican votes.

It's too bad many Dems still don't see the non-Dem votes represented in a fundraising push that raises $3 mil in less than two weeks. There are many more votes there than are being represented in the primaries.

*sigh* The Democrats threaten to marginalize themselves yet again.

Oh, and - signed the petition.

14. I support Dean but won't sign...Here's why:
Bush's AWOL record is a blessing anointed on all Democratic candidates, irrespective of their own military records.
In fact, it effectively neutralizes oncoming attacks on Dean's draft deferment which will be launched by Rove et al if he is nominated.

Thus, I don't spite McAulliff for re-invigorating the issue.

There are plenty of issues upon which to criticize McAulliff, but this ain't one of 'em.

(Great letter, though)

15. You are right. The person who really hates hearing this AWOL stuff is Rove
Knocks the hell out of Bush's brave warrior image. I suggest that to some extent the drop in Bush's poll numbers lately are a direct result to this one issue getting the amount of media coverage it has.

Edited on Fri Feb-06-04 07:37 PM by mitchum
where he said the phrase, "I can't wait to see the debate between Kerry and Bush..."
And it sounded like...SOUNDED LIKE SWEET SWEET MUSIC TO MY EARS

Oops, I'm not a Dean supporter...
but I did kick this thread for you (since I'm feeling gracious in victory)
