let's brainstorm some unconventional ideas for a VP candidate . . .
whether the nominee is Kerry or Edwards, what are some interesting names that might be put forward as potential running mates? . . . not only individuals you think SHOULD be nominated, but other names that maybe haven't been mentioned yet who we might consider . . . let's give special consideration to women and/or minorities who might qualify . . .

one name that I'd like to toss out is Sen. Debbie Stebanow of Michigan . . . she has a progressive record, she's a great speaker, and she's a leader in the fight for cheaper prescription drugs . . . the fact that she's from a Gore state is probably a strike against her, particularly if Kerry is the nominee (he'll need someone from the south, imo) . . . still, I think she's worth a look . . .

any others we haven't thought of yet?

1. Did you have to put the bit about "whether the nominee is..." in there?
I would have wanted to play this game if you hadn't.

14. apologies to supporters of other candidates . . .
I let my personal feelings about the race intrude into the formation of this question . . . please ignore my ignorance and contribute, if you feel so inclined . . .

It makes up for it a little to watch your little smiley smacking himself in the head over and over and over...

Al Gore, Gary Hart, George Mitchell, Bill Moyers, Ralph Nader, Terry McAullfie, Joe Lieberman, Lincoln Chaffee and Lowell Weicker--who I think is now a Democrat supporting Dean.

9. I loved Lowell Weicker!
miss him in the national scene - whether on topic or not he deserves a salin nonsequitor call of support on the rare occaisions where his name shows up on DU.

10. I voted for him
against Joe Lieberman in 1988! The only time I've ever voted Republican. Or should I say "Republican."

8. I suggest looking for an appropriate primate
I mean, picking a strong President and a monkey Veep would draw a sharp contrast with the alternative!

VA governor. Great campaigner, great looks, great resume, no obvious downsides. I worked on his gubernatorial election as a regional press secretary and he was untouchable. He would put VA heavily in play.

18. Why would Edwards be a nominee? Clark has done better than he in the prim
aries. You're listening to the "anointing" of the media.
