Possible explanation for Sen. Allen's remark?

Maybe he saw a guy with brown skin and immediately assumed it was his Senate colleague, the junior senator from Hawai'i, Daniel Akaka. So he wasn't saying "macaca" at all, but "Mr. Akaka".

This whole debacle is proof that I'm just too stoopid to be an effective bigot. I can't keep up with all the terminology--I'd never even heard "macaca" before Allen excreted it from his ignorant scolex.

Have they issued a "clarification" or Mr. Allen's remark, yet? I know that repubs love them.
