"This can happen" - Elizabeth Edwards (from JRE blog)
I am home for the day before setting out to campaign in several states this week. I cheer on volunteers and talk to voters and I talk to the press. One thing about talking to the press is that it requires me to be a little more introspective than I might be if I just pushed through to my next event. And I think I have learned -- or more likely recognized -- some things in the past weeks.

The first is how powerful John is in front of voters. I know that as his wife, I cannot be trusted for an unbiased opinion, but I will share my conclusions nonetheless. First, however, I want to preface them with a statement. It is a silly joke of mine to tell voters that this isn't the ideal time for John to run for president; with a three and a five year old at home, it would be easier to watch from the sidelines. And then I am serious: but this is the time we need him. It's not simply that he can win states that others will have trouble winning. It's not even that he can electrify dispirited voters from a wide political spectrum who have dispaired of finding an authentic voice talking to, or rather, with them. Believe it or not, it is even something more. I have seen him speak and watched as gave himself to a crowd. And more importantly, I have watched as crowd after crowd, room after room gave themselves to him.

John has a rare and inspiring ability to reach into the best parts of each of us and to invest each of us with his sense of what is possible. Of course, there are specifics; there are always specifics. And, although I think his specifics are both practical and visionary, there is something more important, more imperative at this moment in time that he brings. We are a dangerous crossroads and it will not be enough to steer the vehicle of state differently. Right now, we need a leader with a creative and emotional center, with a moral core, who can both hear us and speak for us while at the same time moving us, bringing us together, maybe even to a place to which we thought we could not return: a place where everything is possible.

If I feel tired (and I do sometimes), I remember how important it is that we elect John as President, how much we need him, and I am revived. I want to thank each of you participating here for pushing and working when you are tired, too, for believing in John and in the message we all share. This can happen. And it will.

5. I was leaning toward Edwards last summer
but when I heard Elizabeth speak about him and why he was running soon after that, I was really convinced.

Whatever happens during this primary process, I hope they will know how much we appreciate both of them.
