Does Gephardt want to be Kerry's VP?
I think that might be the reason for the endorsement. He's an interesting pick. If he can give us Missouri and we hold all the Gore states, we win the election.

The downside is he's boring. Would be be able to bring Missouri home to Kerry?

1. That choice would put the nail
in Kerry's coffin - two Bush lites - count on many of the base to stay home.

10. Much, much more
This is why Gephardt is better VP choice than Edwards or Clark:

-Gep may be uninspiring to some, but there's no question he's a Democratic heavyweight and a great American.
-There's nobody stronger on labor/jobs -- which will be a major issue this election year.
-He can easily carry his own state. Edwards or Clark cannot.
-He can easily carry his own region. Edwards or Clark cannot.
-Most of the states Gep will bring over to our column are swing states, including his home state.
-Gep can easily get the Reagan Democrats/blue collar ethnic whites, voters who tend to be economically liberal but socially conservative.
-Gep is only slightly to the right of Kerry, which is perfect. (too much of a contrast on a ticket is not good, i.e. Dukakis/Bentsen).

Now, I'm not sure Gephardt is my first choice, all options have to be looked at including people we're not thinking of right now. But Gep would definitely be a good choice.

7. Interesting choice.
We'd be more competitive in the midwest and less in the south. Michigan and Pennsylvania certainly would be out of play for the Republicans with a Kerry-Gephardt ticket.

My personal preference remains Kerry-Edwards, however.
