Kerry saved the life of a GOP Senator in 1988
Edited on Thu Feb-05-04 04:23 PM by NewYorkerfromMass
(the traitor) ;)

It turns out there's another Republican who is coming forward to say that Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) saved his life, but this rescue mission occurred in a corridor of the Capitol - not the jungles of Vietnam.

The incident dates back to 1988, when then-Sen. Jacob "Chic" Hecht (R-Nev.) rushed out of a GOP Conference luncheon gasping for air because he was choking on a slice of apple. Kerry happened to walk off a nearby elevator and hurriedly performed the Heimlich maneuver.

"He sized it up in a split second and saved my life," the 75-year-old former Senator recalled in a telephone interview this week.

"Every year at Christmas my wife and I call John Kerry and thank him for saving my life," Hecht added. "My wife of 45 years gets very emotional. He seems very happy that we remember him every year."....

6. How about the THOUSANDS John Edwards saved?
John Edwards saved thousands, potentially tens of thousands of lives by suing the makers of defective products. Does that count for something?

13. Counts for plenty
in my book. Heck I like Edwards a lot. His stock has really risen for me the last month, why didnt I give him a look before :). He is a good guy, and I think he should be proud of the work he did as a lawyer.

14. Of course it does he should be commended. But
Kerry still saved a human being forget he was republican. Would you like it if someone asked you if your a repuk or democrat if you were choking? Some of these complaints about Kerry are scraping the bottom of the barrel. He has paid his dues. 30 years of public service. Veteran, why are people so vitriolic? He has served the people of Massachusetts very well and the country in general. There are times when being eccentric is good but not as a presidential candidate. Kerry is not trying to change things overnight. People will not vote for the extreme person.

23. My grandfather saved a man from choking
and years after, the man still thanked him. Nice to know Kerry knows the Heimlich and that he used it to save a person's life.

15. Yes, it does!
Edwards has represented people who otherwise would have be trounced by big biz.
He just needs a better press secretary! Edwards supporters should call his HQ and tell them to do a better job.

9. ribsmasher lifesaver Kerry! rock on!
"Hecht still needed the help of a team of Capitol physicians, who were unable to remove the apple for some time. The Senator was left with a smashed rib and a sore throat that could not handle solid food for several days, but he realized that it was nothing compared to what could have happened."

21. How many people has Dean assisted
on the campaign trail alone? Never mind what he did while he was a practicing doctor.

I witnessed my Dad save somebody under similar circumstances about 10 years ago - and I think my Dad would be a better President than John Kerry.
