Inside Politics: Repub says Bush got an "honorary" discharge from Guard
Edited on Thu Feb-05-04 03:54 PM by Rowdyboy
Now thats more like it! What a Freudian slip...Definition of Honorary in Websters is "Without labor or pay, unearned".

I believe it was Rich Bond

4. Excellent point.
Up until now, R partisans could blow smoke with a straight face.

The time has come now for them to face the music and pick a side, like Senators Goldwater and Baker did with Nixon.

Hagel, McCain, Chafee, etc,. are you really comfortable in bed with these creeps? History is taking names.

6. That doesn't answer the question
and he repeated it two or three times, each time JW brought up that fact that there were no records of bush being there for a year. He never did address that, kept falling back on the honorable discharge. But that's not the question, is it?

the guy also said it was thrity year old news, that we should move on, or words to that effect.

I really hope our side pushes this and doesn't back away.

9. No matter how many times
JW asked him the question he never answered it. He said "honroable" so many times he finally had a brain burp. They're all following their talking points to a T.

13. "the honorable discharge. But that's not the question, is it?"
In the way you mean it, no the HD in no way clears him of AWOL.

But it raises an even bigger question, to the contrary: how did he GET the HD with that much AWOL time? In those days, plenty of guys in the NG who blew off even 2 or 3 drills were activated into regular service and found themselves in rice paddies. And if they missed as much time as Shrub, they went to the stockade until they were separated with a Bad Conduct discharge, leaving the question just how did he get the HD and who fixed it for him?

By the way, wonder what a FOIA treatment of his drug buddy and co-groundee James Bath's NG records would show?

8. And I have 5 Good Conduct Medals.
Do you know what we call the 'Good Conduct' medal?
"Four years of UNDETECTED CRIME award".

All a 'honorable' discharge means is that they didn't find him guilty of anything. It doesn't mean he didn't do anything.

10. The Repub's claim that Bush "made up" duty time and thereafter
was honorably discharged, underlines his preferential treatment. Making up duty is "too little too late" in a time of war.

Bush knew his wrongful behavior would haunt his career and that's why he made up the missing time.
