For 2008 election, Al Gore could be the real deal
Full article:
http://www.sptimes.com/2006/07/30/Columns/For_2008_election__Al.shtml

Al Gore, where have you been all my life?

Oh, I don't mean the alpha-male wanna-be, that scripted, stiff, uninspired candidate for president in 2000. I mean the self-effacing movie star with man-of-steel conviction from An Inconvenient Truth, who is trying to shake this country by the shoulders over the dire consequences of global warming. From the ashes of his overhandled "be everything to everybody" campaign rose the real Al Gore, a confident, wonkish, accessible intellect who has a supremely important question for inhabitants of Earth : How long can you tread water?

This is the man, with his charts and facts and rising seas message, that the Democrats should enlist in 2008.

—snipped—

America is ready for an adult like Gore to take charge and put the nation back on sensible footing: a footing where deficits do matter, where energy conservation is not sneered at as a "personal virtue" but is an aggressive national policy, and where science, facts and reality drive public policy, not the Christian Right's neo-medieval agenda.

4. I hope not...
the Repukes/Neocons would murder him, stealing yet another election. By the way, Gore, to me is so uninspiring as a politician. He does much better out of the political spotlight and as a champion of environmental causes and other social justice issues.

Best of luck to him, but I wasn't impressed in 2000 and I'm still not impressed.

If the Dems can't do any better than Hillary, Gore and Kerry, then there's absolutely no hope at all for this country.

It's time for new, provocative firebrand types of politicians.

Can't think of anyone else ?
I always liked Gore but actually its after the loss that I think his "true colors" came out and I think they are awesome :)!

The environment has always been a key issue for me so I always liked him and it seems to get more important with time...

But, I believ Hurricane Katrina really showed him for the truly compassionate human being he is...

(yes I know he doesn't appeal to some Green party voters still, he hasn't spoken out on the I/P issue etc. but I still love him :))

17. You obviously never heard or saw the address Gore gave
on the last Martin Luther King Day. It was fiery and absolutely stirring and I was move to tears at times. Had he shown the same fire in the gut in 2000 he would have walked away from Bush with a lead far to big to steal. Hell, as it was, if he had even won his own home state he would have won the presidency despite Florida.

8. I agree, Al could indeed be the real deal
if he runs...and that is a big if. But honestly my wife and I are just so ready for anyone who would turn our country away from it's current path. There are many dems who would be a great POTUS. Kerry, Dean, Clark just to name a few. Hell for that matter 3/4 of the dems who have expressed interest in running would be a damn site better than what we have.At least we would have leadership that was thoughtful of our citizens and the worlds, the future and our children's future...oh god I could go on and on, but I think you get the idea.

12. Clark could be good...
Dean might be too polarizing. The absolute best choice is Russ Feingold, but I understand that he'll have a tough time as well...

I'm thinking that we just need an entirely new crop of politicians. I don't have anyone in mind, obviously, since that crop has to be created...AND we need someone preferably from the grassroots. I guess that what I'm trying to say is that this same cast of characters that many of you keep trotting out: Gore, Kerry, Dean, Hillary, etc., are just part of the same formula that hasn't worked. They're simply not strong enough and don't put up the fight that's needed against these Repugs.

Again, I'm more impressed with Gore NOW and I wish that he demonstrated that same passion and effectiveness while running for president. I just think it's over for him as a politician, that's all...

14. I obviously am aware of this...
Admittedly it's going to take some time. I still think that this current crop of Dem possibilities is weak against this evil, corrupt administration. And if you guys think Hillary has a chance in hell, I just think you're delusional. They'd murder her, Kerry or Gore. Out of the three, Gore has the best chance; I just don't think he's strong enough to fight against this evil cabal. And with the blessing of this corporate, acquiescent media, I just don't see it...

16. If you're not one of 'you guys,' then
my statement doesn't apply to you. 'You Guys' is a general statement that includes those who fervently believe that Hillary is a viable candidate for presidential office. I doubt that many would disagree with me that Hillary is quite the polarizing figure and would have a difficult time--even in sympathetic, LIBERAL circles. I know liberals who even hate Hillary Clinton and believe that it would signal the end of the Democratic party if she were to run. Sure, two years is an eternity in politics and maybe Gore and Hillary could change their public perception. But again, I'm not that naive as to think that these neocon fascists and their corporate, cheerleading media won't try and do everything conceivable and not to make sure that Gore, Kerry, Hillary are destroyed...

10. By chance, I just got back from An Inconvenient Truth a couple hours ago.
It's dynamite, and it's just the exposure Gore needs to refute all those stupid stereotypes the corporate media hung on him in 2000. That movie may just turn out to be the best, longest and most effective political ad ever made.

I'd vote for Gore, I'd work for Gore.

18. I don't know if this has been posted here before,
but I did not read it here: http://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/WO0606/S00202.htm

"A new behavior prediction tool is forecasting a landslide victory for former Democratic Vice President Al Gore in the 2008 presidential election. However, should Hillary Clinton gain the Democratic nomination, any potential Republican challenger will win the presidency."

If this is accurate, it is big news. An interesting read.

21. I hate this kind of "now you're the REAL Al Gore" article...
Gore wrote "Earth in the Balance" in 1991. 19-freaking-91, people! Before he was even Vice President!

Anyone paying attention knew "the real Al Gore" by the time 2000 came along. What amazes me is that some people still admit that their votes were swayed by the most asinine things. "Gore wore too much makeup during his debate." "He was wooden." "He sighed." "He said 'lockbox'." Just the most idiotic things.

Worse yet are the lies and media myths that people bought into. "Gore said he invented the internet! Haw-haw!" "He had a zillion consultants and some woman told him to wear earth tones!"

I never understand, either, how Gore was supposedly "the alpha-male wanna-be, that scripted, stiff, uninspired candidate for president in 2000" who WON the freaking popular vote!

The people who write this kind of article are still either too naive or too embarrassed to admit that they bought the media line of guff about Al Gore in 2000. Maybe if folks like Ms. Blumner were actually interested in voting for a political leader instead of a moviestar, the media couldn't get away with this kind of crap in the first place.

25. Yes, I have that book and I love the man for all that he stands for.
He really is a visionery and is really strong on National security issues. How we get along in the world regarding war and peace, along with the tremendous environmental problems that we have to face will ultimately effect our economy.

Al Gore, as well as Wes Clark, have a knowledge and understanding of science, and both of these men are known and respected around the world. The two of them together could accomplish so much!

33. It would be a dream come true.
Don't believe he wants to though, at least not this time around. Can't say I'd blame him... even when Kerry ran, I felt sorry for him, because anyone entering this mess should be pitied, admired and supported. Yes, all three. NOW look at what just these past two years have done...OMG.....

It's like wishing hell on someone you love, and at the same time, (feeling SO conflicted because they would benefit, LITERALLY, the World,) so equally, you want them to do it.

Very torn here. World NEEDS him, he would have to carry that. THAT'S the weight of the world on your shoulders. Can't imagine it.
