BBV Was Discussed At The Dean Meetup Last Night
Portland, Oregon: My wife is a Dean supporter, so we went. There was NO talk of the irregularities in NH. No whining about the campaign in general. The leaders were good at staying positive & focused on Dean's platform more than the politics/races, etc. The BBV information presented was taken directly from the blackboxvoting.com site. They was a person from the county Democratic Party there to recruit precinct workers, and lotsa people signed up - including myself.

Many people still didn't know about BBV, but the information pamphlets were well done. The many political newcomers to the Dean campaign are getting quite an education, and I get the feeling they will stay involved long after this race.

1. there was nothing irregular
about NH.

People near Mass. voted more heavily for Kerry.

People near Vt. voted more heavily for Dean.

Coincidentally, those areas use different vote-counting methods.

4. I know
but you still mentioned irregularities in NH.

I'm pointing out that there were no irregularities, at least so far nobody has shown any evidence to that effect.

It's a losing battle, I know, but I'm trying to demonstrate that Dean wasn't robbed. His supporters, however, seem to be committed to the idea that he was.

I just know for the next x years we're gonna hear how Dean was robbed.

6. Apparently his supporters are not "committed to the idea he was robbed"

or else it would've been mentioned at the meetup.

That's why I made it clear that there was no mention of it. I was surprised by that, myself.

That sounds as if you accept as fact that there were irregularities. So far nobody has shown a bit of evidence that there were.

9. yes, that is better
and it gives me a chance to say the allegations are the result of people with a very low understanding of logic and statistics drawing a false conclusion based on two overlapping correlations.

11. I have to say that I am not committed to the idea he was robbed either.
Despite remaining convinced that the DNC should figure out a way to assure voters--all Democratic voters, certainly--that their candidacy election process is trustworthy.

12. Oh, no, nothing irregular.
Just robo-calling people in the middle of the night, that's all. Just a little push polling, that's all. Move along, folks. That's politics! Nothing to see here...

I know you've put work into this. I don't want to diminish it. But you keep asking for some impossible "variable" to plug into the numbers. There isn't one. The outcome is the result of a couple hundred thousand individual decisions.

But the fact that the optical scan counties border largely on the Massachusetts border, and the other systems along the Vermont border, indicates to me that there's a perfectly innocent reason for the outcome.

Further, the outcome was NOT unexpected - it was indicated by the polls leading up to the election. And I just have a hard time imagining a) who would want to do this and b) why they would have to skew an election that everyone knew Kerry was going to win anyway.

2. www.verifiedvoting.org
When you discuss the BBV issue with folks, do you mention www.verifiedvoting.org?

We are really very active on this issue.and are pressing for passage of the legislation that is needed to start resolving the problem.
