Edwards running money race, too
Campaign coffers need replenishing

John Edwards didn't waste time hunting for money after his big presidential primary win in South Carolina and his near victory in Oklahoma.
Wednesday, the North Carolina senator sent a mass e-mail message to his supporters, asking them to dig a little deeper.
"I need your immediate support to compete in the upcoming primaries in states like Tennessee, Virginia and Wisconsin. ... Help provide the resources needed for the victories ahead," Edwards wrote.

Edwards' campaign says he has raised about $1.6 million since his second-place finish in Iowa two weeks ago. That includes about $200,000 raised over the Internet since his South Carolina victory.
He'll need it -- and quickly.
The two states he's now targeting -- Tennessee and Virginia, which hold primaries Tuesday -- will require advertising buys in major markets such as Washington, Richmond, Nashville and Memphis. Running a moderate television campaign for a week could cost about $500,000 in Virginia and $300,000 in Tennessee, political strategists estimate.
