DEBORAH ORIN -President Bush is blowing it.
Folks there getting nervous.

February 5, 2004 -- COLUMBIA, S.C. - Republicans at the grass-roots level are starting to get the jitters - not because they think Democratic front-runner John Kerry is such a great candidate (they don't) but because they fear an out-of-touch President Bush is blowing it.
" made it too obvious that they wanted to run against Howard Dean because he was liberal - and that made it possible for Kerry to come in as the knight in shining armor when on paper he's even more liberal than Dean," groused a GOP strategist.

1. Bush Is NOT Attractive
Two things about Bush jump out at you:
  • He's very conceited. He thinks he's God's gift, and
  • He's wrong all the time. When is the last time he got anything right?

The election won't be won or lost on campaign strategy. Bush is not an attractive candidate.

2. exactly
And I don't think it's a knock on any of our candidates to say that a recently deceased goldfish could probably overtake Bush in 2004.

Should that dead golfish not support the IWR, of course. ;)

4. It's Too Early
We can't get our hopes up yet, since the media machine hasn't cranked up yet, and lots can happen in the next few months. But...

Sometimes lately, I go to bed dreaming of another one term bush presidency. That would be the kiss of failure on one cheek, and the kiss of death on the other. Political donors don't like giving money to losers, that's why they cling to Reagan so tightly. If bush goes down next November, we may be rid of that particular family for good.

My biggest fear is that, seeing * for the loser that he is, the RNC will bump him off in an attempt to martyr him a la JFK.
