It's Official - Zell votes in the Republican Primary
From the Political Insider at Atlanta Journal-Constitution

‘Newly minted Republican’ Zell Miller doesn’t cut it

Sunday, July 23, 2006, 06:00 PM

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

If it’s 9 a.m. Monday, Democratic fax machines are whirring. In case you missed it, over the weekend Zell Miller confessed he’d picked up a Republican primary ballot for the first time last Tuesday, to vote for Gov. Sonny Perdue — and presumably for Ralph Reed, whom he also endorsed.

We haven’t seen them. But we’re sure the press releases will say that, with his Tuesday ballot, Miller officially forfeited his status as “maverick Democrat.” This will be a great lost to journalistic cliché-dom. Somehow, “swing voter Zell Miller” doesn’t have the same panache.

4. Ha! We're scaring the quail out of the brush!
Pretenders, phonies, shills. So many of them out there, preventing a true democratic discourse to emerge.

Good grief. What a certifiable nutcase.

Is that what the Georgia heat does to a person?

11. The sad thing is, I voted for him!
I voted for him twice for governor and once for senate. He acted like a democrat when I voted for him.

I seriously think he has some ailment. The duel comment, the rest of the crazy talk. Or it could just be that he wants to dance with the party in power.

14. There's a Republican here in town...
that has the quintessential Republican bumper stickers on his work van: "W'04" "Annoy A Liberal: Work Hard. Succeed. Be Happy." "NRA" "Man + Woman = Marriage" etc. He also has in 4-inch capital block lettering on the entire rear left door: ZELL MILLER. No "for" or advocating any sort of discontent against Democrats whatsoever. It's heartfelt, genuine support for Zell Miller by a card-carrying member of the GOP.

Enough said.

15. Welcome to the DU
I don't think I will miss "Give Chris Matthews hell, Zell". He had his heart in the right place when he finally got the flag changed and got education funding, but he's like Joe Lieberman and Bush: "I know it was you Fredo."

:hi:

16. His one good achievment was HOPE
the public scholarship program in Georgia. It was a great innovation. Past that, he went senile (Republican).

20. He seemed a little "unhinged" at the GOP convention.

I mean not like a Democrat who agrees with Bush but more like somebody setting in a red neck bar somewhere commenting on the news after a few boilermakers

21. Question
I vaguely remember the whole Zell Miller controversy during the 2004 election as he jumped on the "bandwagon" for Bush and actually SPOKE at the 2004 Republican National Convention and Al Franken devoted a portion of his latest book, "The Truth(with jokes)" to Zell's dramatic (would "betrayal" be TOO strong of a word???). Although I'm not surprised that he has decided to vote in the GOP primary, how and when did he exactly from being a Democrat, particularly one who at one time apparently spoke very highly of John Kerry, to the keynote speaker at the REPUBLICAN NATIONAL CONVENTION in 2004. How in the world could anybody betray their party like THAT? Did somebody force the "kool-aid" down his throat or did he drink it voluntarily?

24. even Casey Cagle just wasn't slimy enough for Zell!
but this makes me feel much better about supporting Mark Taylor and other Democrats on the ballot in November.

It amazes me how voters who completely loathed Zell Miller just ten years ago, for trying to change the state flag and backing Bill Clinton, now view him as a political savior. It shocks me how someone, who spoke out so passionately against Bush in 1992 and the unquestioning homogeneous nature of Republican politics, would now allow himself to be used by these creeps!
