Russert impresses me squeezing the mental DNA out of Bolton :)

Rarely have I seen such squirming and sidestepping as Joshua Bolton on Meet the Press. He is attempting to explain the unexplainable, but, alas, it is in vain. He is stammeringly unable to defend the Bush/Rove position on the issue of stem cell research and can't explain Bush's right wing pandering and inconsistencies. It was like nailing jello to the wall, an impossible task, but I'm writing to say Russert did an admirable job trying. The jello just oozed out of Bolton's mouth it was actually painfully funny to watch and hear.

1. It was Wonderful
There is no way the spin on this is going to work. I just wanted Russert to ask Bolton if it would be okay if we didn't pay the portion of our taxes that go to war. I would be happy to pay taxes for scientific research. Too bad I don't get that choice.

7. I love it
Maybe we could start a compaign to write on our returns, 'Please do not allocate any of my money to Bush's Blunder."

11. I think there is a way to do this, actually.
Google it and it should come up.

3. Josh has a tough job putting a positive spin on a failed policy.
Change "policy" to plural.

The stem cell veto is going to put the hurt on a lot of GOP Congressional candidates this year -- in a close race their president has vetoed a bill that would give hope to many people. There isn't much of a defense to offer for taking away people's hope.

Dumb move by Dubya.

4. Unenviable task for sure
Defending the indefensible, snatching away hope from people. Everyone knows, or knows of, someone who could directly benefit from the promise of this research. Even the present group of inept Democrats should be able to use this issue to their benefit.

8. Did they even calculate the net gain?
I know this was a little red meat for the base, motivation to vote even though they haven't gotten their way, but will that outweigh the negatives for Repugs running for reelection?

I half expected Bush to let the bill gather dust on his desk and then doubletalk the base into "accepting the inevitable". No, too subtle. Why not a signing statement contradicts the bill, like usual?

Seems like a bad call-- is Rove off his game, or is it Endgame in 3 moves?

18. Good questions. Evidently Dubya has to promise the Nutcase Fundies
he'll veto things like this so that the party generally can continue to count on their sycophantic support and donations.

But that's only a guess. I have no idea what motivates the Bush White House these days. It used to be greed and bloodlust, but now a sort of twisted deliberate incoherency seems to have entered the picture.

The first draft of books on the Bush presidency are in the 'Save' files of a lot of analysts and historians. I have a hunch a good many of them are not rosy assessments.

19. No ...
Rove ain't off his game ... These guys actually have made THOUSANDS of misteps all along ...

They got this clown elected in the first place because of the hard work by Gingrich/Delay/Reed/Limbaugh et all to just totally slander the heck out of Clinton/the democratic party ... The whole "morality" thing was set up for Rove and company to run with ... THEN, the election, well, they didn't even really win ...

After that, they were headed toward a QUICK exit in 2004 when 9-11 hit ... Look at this dufusses "pole" numbers, and his entire presidency has been about losing public support, literally, with him getting a turbo boost to the mid 80s with the country getting behind him after 9-11, then a minor bump with the "wars" ...

Really, they have done VERY little right ... They just had the dumb luck, if it was that, to benefit and take advantage of 9-11 ...

This situation, frankly, highlights that ... This was a VERY hot issue just before 9-11, and he was in trouble with it even then, but it totally got swept under the carpet when 9-11 happened ...

5. My favorite line in the whole debate -
Asking Bolten's opinion on how Karl Rove says adult stem cells are more promising than fetal stem cells:

Bolten: Well, Tim, I'm not a scientist.

Russert: Well, neither is Karl Rove.

I swear if Rove gets with 100 miles of South Carolina, I'm gonna kick his fat ass.

6. Watch out for the flames from the Russert Sucks crowd
I like Russert and I think he's, for the most part, as tough as possible when handling these slippery, slimey snakes.

12. I don't know what you're talking about. Russert DOES suck. But even
the "Russert Sucks," crowd which to my estimation is most DUers on most Sunday mornings, will acknowledge that occasionally Russert will rough-up a puke and it's a pleasure to behold.

13. Russert does Suck....it's that Bolton has drunk so much NeoCon Kool Aid
that he's being shown as the clueless, out of touch idiot he really is.

He really can't spin the disconnect with what's going on...so Russert looks like he's really "grilling him."

I stopped watching Russert but turned it on because folks here said that Bolton was being "routed" by Russert, though. And, he's doing a better job than he used to...I must admit.

17. I'm Reading "Lapdogs" - Russert is
no friend to the truth since Bush. He is friends with many a republican's, but then many are, most notable Schieffer, Kopple, and Timmy.

10. Russert did a good job, especially in his questioning
on stem cell. Cynic that I am, I wondered if Russert had any personal interest in the research.
He was especially hard-hitting on trying to pin the "is it murder" tag on him. ( as Tony Snow had said)

The interview with Ricks ( author of an Iraq book titled Fiasco )was good too. RIcks got out all that he needed to in a short interview...ie : Iraq is a fiasco

15. Bwa hahahahahaha!! I was just going to start a thread...
Bolton. That frikkin' piece of crap. Bolton spinning. He's going to look like a whirling dervish.

He was trying to explain the head of the Iraqi parliament (I think) saying the US are "butchers". Repeated several times that in a democracy (Iraq sic) they have the right to speak their mind while trying to spin the "butchers" statement. Ha haha. Bolton is an asswipe. And a fool.

He also mentioned that Iraq is sovereign.

I SAY AGAIN: PAUL BREMER LEFT 100 ORDERS THAT PREVENT IRAQ FROM EVER HAVING ANY SOVEREIGNTY UNLESS WE'RE KICKED OUT AND IRAQIS TAKE BACK THEIR COUNTRY.

Bolton. Lying no-good fscker!!!

Now Bolton's spinning about the embryos. I bet Bolton is gonna crap himself after the show.

16. Every one of Bush's issues is full of inconsistencies and pandering
Russert felt comfortable in actually interviewing this neo-con rather than the usual ass-kissing-talking-point-regurgitating because it was a congressionally bi-partisan. Had we a free-press, Russert would have the courage to do that with every one of Bush's hypocritical decisions.

21. Joshua Bolten is the W-H Chief of Staff.
John Bolton is the US ambassador to the UN. Minor spelling difference pointed out to clarify O/P subject line.
