Here is what I think we are up against this election
CIA Director Tenet on live right now building up the CIA and Bush. Also saying that all of the WMD's that Powell and Bush said Iraq had would fit into a couple of "small collage dorm rooms". A couple of months ago I heard some Republican hack say it would all fit into a garage. The WMD's are getting smaller and smaller. They are going to have to plant some sooner or later. Won't be huge amounts or nothing, but you can bet your bottom dollar that it will be enough to convince voters that it is enough to kill millions of people. Why would this be when we here at DU know it is all a set up you ask? It is because people want WMD's to be found. Thats right. They do. Just to ease their conscience and to prove America was right all along. They do not want to think about over 500 soldiers dying for nothing or to steal Iraq's oil. Nope, they don't. The sooner we all admit this the better off we will be. So any candidate who has made blanket statements like invading Iraq did not make us safer won't stand a chance against Bush in November. I may be wrong about all of this, but we had better be prepared for the worst.

1. They done so mnay reversals on this though
Just last week Smirk was saying that there probably aren't any. When Diane Saw-whore asked him if there were WMD, he said, "What's it matter?" Blix, Kay, and basically everyone in the world except the Bushwhores knows there never were any. I am not sure how much this will fly.

7. the statement that everyone in the world knows there never were any
isn't true. the UN, and many countries were convinced, by their own intel that the weapons did exist.

3. During the lead-up to the IWR vote
it occurred to me that if the majority of Dems voted against it, the Bushies would make sure that a cache of nukes or poison gas or anthrax was "found" in Iraq. After all, the U.S. does have its own supplies of all these WMDs. Judging from other ops that I know about, planting a few WMDs would have been no big deal for the CIA.

That's why I'm more forgiving (although still disappointed in) the candidates who voted for the IWR.

Here's the unanswerable comeback to any late "discoveries" of WMDs: "If these weapons are so dangerous, why didn't Saddam Hussein use them when he was being attacked? Wouldn't that have been the logical time? What was he saving them for?"

5. Recently Cheney said we needed to look in every cubby hole.
I laughed out loud...how do the Iraqi's hide tons of chemical weapons in a "cubby hole?" They must be magicians.

A guy at the gym told me they would find them in October and I was to "mark his words." Again, I laughed and said yeah, that would be believable since the election is in November and Smirk's Daddy was head of the CIA. No coincidence there!

8. Size Calculations
Edited on Thu Feb-05-04 11:44 AM by Nederland
http://www.whitehouse.gov/response/disarm.html

As Will Pitt pointed out in his first Press Secretary event for Kucinich, the intelligence estimates for WMD still exist out on the White House webserver. They are here:

http://www.whitehouse.gov/response/disarm.html

The summary is this:

26,000 liters of anthrax—enough to kill several million people.
38,000 liters of botulinum toxin.
500 tons of sarin, mustard and VX nerve agents.

In his speech, Will Pitt ran down this list and then sarcastically said 'Hide that', as if to imply that the size of the above list is rather significant. Unfortunately, it isn't. Here's the math:

26,000 liters + 38,000 liters = 64,000 liters = 64 meters cubed
64 meters cubed = 2m x 4m x 8m

A box that is 2x4x8 is a little bigger than a one car garage. Not at all hard to hide. Now I was trying to look up how much volume a ton of sarin gas takes up, but I've been unable to find it. Anybody else out there got a source for this? I'd be curious...

9. How can tons of anything fit in a cubby hole?
That sounds like a 3foot wide box to me.

Do these weapons defy physics?

12. I agree a cubby hole would be too small
Edited on Thu Feb-05-04 11:42 AM by Nederland
However, a one car garage isn't small at all. Heck, when I worked in construction I could dig out a one car garage hole in a few hours with a decent backhoe. This stuff could be buried anywhere with very little difficultly.

The bottom line is this. I wouldn't go around talking about how hard it would be to hide the amount of WMD that the administration says Iraq had because the fact is it wouldn't be that hard to hide. What would be hard is to hide the stuff without somebody after all these months coming forward and saying: "give me a million bucks and I'll tell you where its hidden". I simply can't imagine that if this stuff really existed, someone wouldn't have spoken up by now...

13. "someone wouldn't have spoken up by now..."
Dead men tell no tails would be the administrations answer. Saddam or his evil sons killed them right after they hid the WMD's. Probably using a gold plated AK-47 for good measure too. They have no shame. And all the FOX viewers would say "yup, that makes sense".

15. I heard Saddam
was developing a black hole, the size of the head of a pin. It could weigh a zillion tons but given it's small size it's going to take awhile to search the head of every pin in Iraq.

11. I can't imagine Tenet wanting any kind of real investigation of 9/11 and..
...Iraqs WMD's. He would look like the biggest fool in the world if that were to happen. Might even go to jail. No, Tenet wants to see the Chimp stay in charge for a while and will do and say anything he can to achieve that goal. Old man Bush was the Director of the CIA for a while. He probably has all kinds of stuff on Tenet.
