Kerry Opens Huge Advantage in Michigan

DETROIT (Reuters) - Democratic presidential front-runner John Kerry (news - web sites) has opened a huge advantage in Michigan two days before the state's caucuses, leading Howard Dean (news - web sites) by 37 points, according to a Reuters/MSNBC/Zogby poll released on Thursday.

Fresh from five wins in seven states on Tuesday, Kerry is in position for another sweeping victory in Michigan on Saturday that would continue his dominance of the Democratic race to pick a challenger to President Bush (news - web sites) in November.

Kerry, a four-term senator from Massachusetts, held a wide lead among the old and young, liberals and conservatives, blacks, whites and Hispanics and every other sub-group.

"While the top issue is clearly the economy, electability is the major factor driving Kerry's lead," pollster John Zogby said, echoing what exit polls have found in earlier states.

1. Yeah, none of the other candidates are competing there
Dean has stopped airing ads. Clark has stopped airing ads. Edwards never even bothered.

Put another notch in Kerry's column.

2. As a Kerry-person, this makes me both happy and nervous...
... because when a candidate is riding this high, there is the potential for a big fall. 'Electibility' is a shaky foundation. Hopefully, people who came on looking for a winner will stay because they like where Kerry stands on the issues.

6. All I know is that my liberal wife......
as well as my moderate democrat parents, as well as my republican father-in law, as well as many non-political friends and family all like Kerry. Quite a bit.

Of course I could just take the approach of many on this board and just harrangue them about how stupid they are or how gullible they are and how they clearly must be mind-controlled by the media and how they are all falling prey to the Skull and Bones conspiracy.

I'm sure that would convince them that Kerry is not the best man for the job.

5. Didn't say 'Electibility' is the only reason
for Kerry's support:

"Kerry, a four-term senator from Massachusetts, held a wide lead among the old and young, liberals and conservatives, blacks, whites and Hispanics and every other sub-group."

16. But the point is that he's not standing on the issues...
he dances on the issues... So, you should be worried.

7. Telling the herd where to go
People were herded for support for the Iraq War. People are being herded for Kerry and if you ask them what Kerry will change they cannot answer. It is the mindless following of a herd.

8. Yes. The media controls all.
I am sitting here waiting for the media to tell me what's for breakfast.

10. heehee
I am trying to reconcile the fact that Kerry has such a huge lead with the fact that Kerry visibility is zero in my (liberal) part of the state and I don't anyone who intends to vote for Kerry. Should I believe the media and polls instead of my two eyes :eyes:

can't wait for the results on Sat...thanks to online voting, I've already cast my ballot!!

15. Interesting article from here in Detroit.
http://www.detnews.com/2004/politics/0402/05/a06-56294.htm

What am I seeing here in Michigan? A whole lot of disgruntled voters who believe the candidates aren't speaking to them.

All bets are off on the polls in my opinion. Our candidates have fumbled the ball.

Clark, Sharpton and Dean are the only ones who have said they will come to the NAACP's meeting tonight.

:( As a Detroiter, I am disappointed.
