Bush to veto stem cell bill because stem cells are "human beings."
The Senate voted Tuesday after two days of emotional debate to expand federal funding of embryonic stem cell research, sending the measure to President Bush for a promised veto that would be the first of his presidency.

The bill passed 63-37, four votes short of the two-thirds majority that would be needed to override Bush's veto. The president left little doubt he would reject the bill despite late appeals on its behalf from fellow Republicans Nancy Reagan and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

"The simple answer is he thinks murder's wrong," said White House spokesman Tony Snow. "The president is not going to get on the slippery slope of taking something living and making it dead for the purposes of scientific research."

Senate supporters of the bill likened that logic to opposition suffered by Galileo, Christopher Columbus and others who were rebuked in their time but vindicated later."

Does that mean that Bush thinks that invetro fertiliztion is murder too?

"To some pro-life supporters, creating 24 human beings, and then "murdering" 21 of them in order to produce one newborn is much too high a price to pay. It is mass murder. One would expect that pro-life groups would actively picket and demonstrate at IVF clinics. However, we have never seen an account in the media of this actually happening."

I wonder how many "pro-life" Republicans had IVF?

3. Let me get this straight. The stem cells are human beings. However, the
innocent civilians in Iraq are not.

9. Do the embryo lovers have funeral rites over the toilet every month?
Because that's where most fertilized eggs land after Mother Nature decides she doesn't want to implant them. Do they have funeral services over burning medical waste? Because that's where the unused IVF embryos end up. These people are so ignorant. If they were truly "pro-life" they would be anxious to save existing human beings who have far more than 100 cells.

12. If they really were "pro-life"...
... they'd be on the forefront of fighting for universal healthcare in this country. That's what can save human lives.
