Video: "Let's not have another Supreme Court coup d'etat in America"
Corrine Brown rises in support of the (recently passed) Voting Rights Act

Watch the one minute speech:

Rep. Brown: "Do I have to remind you of Florida 2000 where in my district 27,000 votes in my precincts was thrown out. 27,000 and you know they say the president won by 535. We had a long list of Voting Rights violations and it goes on and on."....

There are snippets of a several floor speeches in support of the VRA at this link-

1. Another good post, Rose Siding.
Al Gore, campaigning for Kerry-Edwards in 2004, said, "Don't let the Supreme Court pick the next president, and don't let this president pick the next Supreme Court."

It was a great line. I wish more voters had taken his advice.

4. *cough* I think the voters did take his advice...
unfortunately their votes were not counted.

5. I mean the folks who voted directly for Bush-Cheney. I still have a hard
time believing they thought Bush-Cheney was a better ticket than Kerry-Edwards.

6. I wonder if that is really true or just
another fabrication made up by *co. I live in a county where you can't tell the people 'pretending' to pass Republican from those that truly are. When you first meet someone, there is the inevitable 'dance' to see where you political alliances are. I actually had someone the other day tell me that Hastert, our congressman, had had nothing to do with Delay for several years now... they just 'didn't get along'.

Not sure why I am blathering about this tonight - esp as we are both in agreement. Kerry/Edwards really did win. The 23% are odd and virtually impossible to understand. :)

7. Agree with you on the Kerry-Edwards win. I think they won in Ohio,
New Mexico, and Iowa. At least.

Bush cheated. To me, it's bad form to cheat, even when the stakes are this high.

It's cheating. And it's wrong.

8. The House speeches on the VRA were magnificent! So passionate
and full of honor for those that fought so hard to get it enacted in the beginning!

It was an honor to listen today.

Thanks Rose!
