Details of Wilsons' Suit against Libby, Rove, and Cheney

Details of Wilsons' Suit against Libby, Rove, and Cheney

By Paul Kiel - July 13, 2006, 4:52 PM

We've posted a copy of Joseph and Valerie Wilson's suit against Karl Rove, Scooter Libby and VP Cheney here, but here are the basic details.

As the suit reads, it "arises out of a conspiracy among current and former high-level officials in the White House and actions taken by and on behalf of those officials in 2003 to violate the constitutional and other legal rights" of Valerie and Joseph Wilson.

1) Violation of First Amendment Right to Freedom of Speech

2) Violation of Fifth Amendment Right to Equal Protection of the Laws

3) Violation of Fifth Amendment Right to Privacy

4) Violation of Fifth Amendment Right to Property

5) Conspiracy to Deprive Persons of Their Civil Rights

6) Action for Neglect to Prevent Civil Rights Violation

7) Public Disclosure of Private Facts

8) Civil Conspiracy.

1. Personally, I have no idea why they would open themselves
up to have their lives completely examined and picked over like a dead carcass by $600 an hour lawyers.

Suing someone like Libby, Rove, and Cheney and the litigation starts, no one knows where it will end.

2. They must be pretty confident about this case.
The Wilsons know better than anybody how vicious these characters can get, and I'm sure they are prepared for the slime campaign that will come.

3. Sorry but they've inadvertantly opened their lives to being
picked over by $600 an hour lawyers and puke pundits. If they are compelled to do this by their wise counsel I say yay verily.

Certainly Fitz's hands were tied. What other recourse do they have?

5. They could have done something as in nothing, just continue to live
their lives and let history tell the final story.

I certainly hope they have wise counsel, I'm not so sure what they have to gain.

Saddam in jail and killed his children.

He may have stood up to Saddam, but he's dealing with a whole different level of people

DC lawyers...........

9. he's in for a fight
but he knows that. He's been the target of Cheney, Rove, the RW hate machine for over three years.

And he will have DC lawyers as well.

10. Wow! That's a lot of fear! Maybe that's not
how Wilson and Plame see it. Seems you're suggesting that they should be afraid to fight!

13. No, not suggesting he is afraid to fight
Just wondering if it will be worth it in the long run for them.

Of course, I assume they have already counted the cost, monetarily and emotionally, it will be large.

14. Sounds almost like you are making a threat
Ambassador Wilson is a fairly bright individual and I am sure he is fully aware of the political climate in which he finds himself. This is exactly what the courts are for. He and his family were injured by these people and he wants some justice done. He waited until it became apparent there would be none from the criminal investigation being conducted so now has to do it on his own. I wish him all the luck in the world.

12. I would rather have my life picked over than live in fear
look at John Dean, after he lived a quiet life; they were not going to let him live in peace,
they called him up with a vicious smear that involved his wife, inuendos about him as the brains behind Watergate. With this crew as we have seen there is no code of honor, no sense of decency, it's better to throw the gauntlet down than have people skulking in the shadows whispering your name for the rest of your life.

11. Joe Wilson stands on principle. And, I believe, that this
is what he feels he must do. Kudos to him and his family!

We need more Americans like Joe!!
