4. Who, pray, will conduct the diplomacy?

The Bush adminstration broke with the tradition of the US acting as a broker for peace in the area. In his first Cabinet meeting in 2001, he announced his break, and declared it was his policy to allow Israel to prevail.

Given the strangehold he has on American policy, I do not see him re-introducing diplomacy into Israel/Palestine. Colin Powell was kicked out of the adminstration because he was a firm believer in diplomacy -- the most reasonable guy is gone. Bush "diplomacy" is carried out by folks like Bolton. It is deliberately provocative and will not work -- and perhaps it is not meant to work, because they really WANT war in the region.

Bush has acted in a way that indicates he supports a regional war in the Middle East -- it's a central doctrine of PNAC.

Given that in reaction to Israeli military activity he is blaming Iran and Syria as being behind the terrorist attacks, he may actually be trying to stir up the shit pot. There is reason to believe that he intends to bring the American military into a regional war in support of Israel ("our allies") -- but don't expect him to be open about it -- he'll call it another necessary war for "democracy" (code word for Israel).

does the fact that someone is polling for an answer to this question, indicate what's going to happen here...pretty convenient...that * is blaming Syria and Iran for this disturbance...I wondered how he was going to get the go ahead to invade Iran...(then Syria)

Most is covert, but it there is deep involvement nevertheless.

It's not like we have a whole bunch of military personnel and materiel just hanging around waiting to be used. They're pretty tied up right now with that whole Afghanistan and Iraq thing, it seems to me.
