... IBP (Iowa Beef Processors), now owned by Tyson, both have a long history of hiring illegal immigrants. The IBP situation actually nearly destroyed communities in northwest Iowa, not to mention Sioux City becoming a haven for hard drugs, ie.... meth, crank, coke. Check this one out: "Immigrants, meatpacking and my town:
I confess my confusion" <

King is not making unneccesary political hay with these immigration issues.
My brother was down in the Dakota City, Neb IBP plant (just across the Missouri River from Sioux City, Iowa) on health and safety inspection/code adherence visit and when on tour with the floor supervisor, they were approached by an "immigrant" who wished to quit for a couple of months to go see his family across the border, whose status as being an illegal was quickly established by approachee and the supervisor who told him "that's fine, take that $3000 you saved over the last 9 months and go on home to Mexico, when you run out of money, call me at this number and I will give you your old job back." .... of course that meant "restarting" at base wage and no benefits for 3-6 months upon return.
That being the case, King isn't just being facetious or bandwagon jumping. I don't spend my time backing up GOP stooges, but he is advancing his constituents concerns on this one.
