On the Mexican Election... and why they might want to
steal it

Several points need to be made about this

1.- The PRI candidate is so far behind is ain't even funny

2.- Lopez Obrador leads in all polls

3.- The PAN is not as close as polls were even in 2000.

That said I will not pass it above them

That said, who becomes the President of Mexico may really not matter that much. Both Obrador and his opponent from the PAN are fairly corrupt (Yes Mexican Tradition) and Obrador did drive the DF (equivalent of DC) to bankruptcy.. that is in the record.

Why does he scare Bush though? He is a hard core populist... that will do anything to keep the people loyal, including bankrupting the DF... by very cute tricks. Such as having mass rallies where every attendee was ahem asked to sign a loyalty oath to the party in exchange for oh 300 pesos, and if you are poor that is a huge amount of money. Those who signed those also got a monthly stipend from the DF... technically that is illegal and one of the reasons they wanted to prosecute him. And trust me, the PRD does not have that kind of money and under Mexican electoral law, that is buying a vote. Oh and you know this was somehow not on the up and up when even La Jornada, a hard left paper turned on him when this was revealed.

His counter part is coming straight from both government service and industry. (I am not even counting the guy from the PRI, he is that far behind) While in industry he worked for some of the major transnational's in Mexico, so we know where his loyalty lies In government he was a cabinet minister and I wonder if he enriched himself while at it.

July 2nd this Sunday will be an interesting thing to watch.

Oh the funny side, all them stupid gringos who are going South to celebrate the 4rth, will find themselves in a VERY DRY country... for Mexico goes dry by law 72 hours before elections. Some may even be stupid and think Martial Law has been declared, for the army goes on high alert and actually guards some booths and patrols the streets.
