Dem calls for all flags to fly half-staff each time an American is KIA
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Marion Berry (D-AR, 1st) introduced a House resolution today calling on the President to require that all government buildings fly the American flag at half-staff when a member of the U.S. Armed Forces is killed in action.
...
Since the start of the War on Terror, the United States has lost more than 2,800 military men and women in conflict. Arkansas alone has lost 34 brave heroes, with only 12 other states in the nation reporting a greater per capita loss.

"I hope Congress rallies behind this legislation and encourages the President to make this great tribute a reality," said Congressman Berry. "Our citizens need a visual reminder every time they see the flag pass over a federal office building, a post office, or even a national park of the tremendous sacrifice that makes this country great."

1. I'm sure this won't "fly" with a Repuke majority
We're constantly reminded that we're "at war" - but they don't want people being reminded that we're "at war" . . .

20. Well, actually they do want people constantly reminded we're at war, but
they certainly don't want anyone reminded that Americans are being killed.

5. Governor Granholm has done that in Michigan
Every time a soldier from Michigan is killed, our flags fly at half-staff.

9. Gov Baldacci does the same here in Maine
BTW, I hope both our Governors win re-election. I can't believe Gov Granholm is not more ahead of that Amway guy.

19. About 80-90 from Michigan have died
Flags in Michigan are lowered only when someone from Michigan is killed.

6. Flag at half mast implies respect and sadness
"conservatives" have no respect for our Soldiers and they are not sad when they get slaughtered in the desert and yet they "support the troops." Typical right wing logic. I heard some "conservative" yahoo in DC say a couple of months ago when something similar was proposed that you can't fly the flag at mast because they are only Soldiers not someone of importance.

7. Our community does that whenever a hometown soldier is killed,
Even if our idiots in congress and *ss will not do it this is something we can ask our local governing body to do. Put a resolution before our city, county, state legislators to do this on their own. Many are voting for impeachment - this is one more step. We would need to mention where the daily total is kept. More than likely the flag would never be raised all the way because one of those kids get killed almost every day.

8. No problem, I just came up with a new product...
The flag pole that is permanently at half staff. No matter how hard you pull on that rope, it will never go higher than half staff. Given the fact that the fucking repukes are now turning this bullshit war on terror into the "long war", what is the need for a real flag pole any longer? There are roughly two soldiers killed everyday, what's the point in lofting the flag to full mast any longer.

Just make the flag permanently at half mast.

This is what our country as turned into a bunch of black humor cynics.

I truly loath and hate that fucking bastard chickhawk failure*.

Each and everyday, something new comes along to break my heart that much more over the loss of soldiers, Iraqi's and general humanity in this world.

I know longer weep for our future, I openly cry now.

10. The problem is that the flag would be at half-staff all the time
and people would no longer notice what would turned out to be a daily occurrence.

11. Yes. At the very least. Flags should fly at half staff. These were kids
who gave up their lives. Kids who believed in their country. Why would some old politician get a flag at half staff when he (she) lived a long live.. had kids.. had an income.. fell in love.. and did it all.

14. how about this?
my idea is that each time an American soldier is killed in Iraq, every flagpole would have to have it's top one inch sawed off ...

at the current average of two deaths per day, even plans that keep troops in Iraq for another year would result in perhaps another 730 American deaths ... dividing 730 inches by 12 means that most flagpoles would be about 61 feet shorter after a year ... this means that most flagpoles would disappear ...

perhaps that's the symbolism Americans needs to see to remind them of the idiocy of spending another year in Iraq ...

15. The cons demonstrate their disdain our honorable vets
Edited on Sat Jul-01-06 07:36 AM by SpiralHawk
over and over. They trash every vet who runs for office, while they are led by chickenhawk George AWOL Bush and Dick "Fice Deferments" Cheney -- with chickenhawk media propagandists Limbaugh, O'reilly and Hannity -- none of whom served America for 5 minutes.

Chickenhawks who tear our vets down...is is because the republicons are ashamed of themselves? I think so.
