Bigots Now Push Constitutional Convention In Obsession To Ban Gay Marriage

This would be the first time in the history of the United States, if they were successful.

The thing is, such a convention would be open to ALL KINDS of amendments.

IMHO, if they call for a constitutional convention, the Democrats in each state legislature should let them know that at the convention, we will push for adoption of an amendment to the US constitution protecting legalized abortion nationwide in the first trimester and an amendment to the constitution prohibiting the federal government from banning stem cell research.

Bring it on, fuckers.

Two can play this game.

Gay Marriage Amendment Supporters Seek Constitutional Convention?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

By Robert Novak
Jun 24, 2006

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Supporters of a constitutional amendment to keep the courts from legalizing homosexual marriage, stunned by poor support in the recent Senate vote, are beginning a campaign for a constitutional convention.

The provision of the Constitution's Article V requiring such a convention if called by two-thirds of the state legislatures has never been used. Fear of throwing the Constitution open to general amendment has overridden support for specific issues. However, key advocates of barring gay marriages believe the constitutional convention strategy will keep the issue alive.

A recent memo circulated within the anti-gay marriage coalition lists Princeton Professor Robby George, Tony Perkins and Chuck Donovan of the Family Research Council, and conservative financial consultant Frank Cannon as favoring the strategy.

Relentless.
In astounding numbers.
All moving in unison.
NOTHING deters them, nothing slows them down.
A single minded mission, they swarm each and every obstacle with overwhelming passion.

I admire these bastards.
I wish I could focus on one thing for so long.

Sooner or later however, they will lose to that one thing that destroys every effort like this.

REALITY.

Please, just go away?

3. A Constitutional Convention would produce a totally new Constitution
The rightwing would try to establish a Christian theocracy, and impose a Christian version of sharia law.

We, on the other hand, can abolish Congress replacing it with a Parliament with proportional representation, like Israel's Knessett, with a Prime Minister and a figure head President. Abortion rights and LGBT rights would be enshrined in the new Constitution, with an expanded version of the current Bill of Rights.

The key to the Constitutional Convention would be in winning a majority of delegates!

9. Basically what they're saying
is that they're willing to destroy America over their hatred of gay people.

These people are truly deranged.

4. One more thing, states can choose to leave the Union
If there is a Constitutional Convention, States would be justified in leaving and forming a new union of states.

Let the world see who shows up to give your speeches, let them see how low each pandering politician goes; let the MSM cover your "Christian" platform, your "Cristian" fire and brimstone attacks on other Americans.....let's see how THAT would play in Peoria!

8. REALLY bad idea . . . they'd stack the convention so badly . . .
that they'd be able to completely re-write the Constitution into an ultra right-wing Christian document . . . bad, bad, bad idea . . .

12. Blue states can opt to secede by rejecting the new Constitution
The United States will become more than one nation: Jesusland for the fundies with their new sharia Constitution, and the blue states that would either unite with other like minded states, or would join Canada.

15. maybe . . . but we'd be split like Pakistan . . .
it would be hard to govern a nation consisting of New York, New England, California, Washington, Oregon, Minnesota, and a few states in between . . .

13. I think the more they keep this front and center
Edited on Sun Jun-25-06 09:15 AM by RangerSmith
the more the public will be turning in favor of Gay Marriage.

So many actually dispise Bush and this group in power now that to hold the same position they do on anything becomes really distasteful. I really expect to see the biggest shift ever in opinion on this over the next year.

16. only closeted self hating homos (or amoral opportunists feeding
off the contributions of the kool aid drinkers) would have such a disproportionate sense of the importance of this issue to seek a constitutional congress to deal with it. Does Frank Cannon sound like a gay porn stage name to anybody else? How about Chuck Donovan?
