Lieberman Goes It Alone
WASHINGTON -- A somber Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman stood alone on the Democratic side of the Senate Wednesday and broke with his colleagues on the Iraq war, announcing he would oppose today two Democratic-authored blueprints for pulling American troops out of Iraq.
...
Lieberman was introduced not by a member of his own party, but by Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman John W. Warner, R-Va., the Bush administration's chief Senate spokesman on military matters. When Lieberman was done, Warner got up and praised the Democrat.

"You have shown tremendous leadership," Warner said. "Each day you grow in stature as a statesman."

Sen. Rick Santorum, R-Pa., seconded that sentiment, saying Lieberman had made an "incredibly articulate" argument.

Lieberman stood expressionless, surrounded by none of his Democratic colleagues. It was not until the end of his 14-minute remarks that one entered the chamber; she sat in the back, waiting for her turn to speak.

Lieberman's remarks changed the rhythm of a debate that had proceeded exclusively along party lines.

10. This shows that Lieberman is too rightwing for even the DLC
The DLC came up with the focus group driven resolution that was introduced by Durbin, and endorsed by Biden, Schumer, and Hillary. Lieberman would not even support the DLC position, which should tell everyone how much Lieberman has morphed into a Republican.

11. A hard-core, right wing friend of mine said
a couple of years ago that he actually "liked" Lieberman. And this is a guy who thinks there's a Clinton bodycount. If this friend of mine liked Lieberman, I knew there had to be something wrong with Joementum.

Oh, and LOL, how ironic that Santorum praised Joe's argument as "incredibly articulate." Joe, you reached new highs in low!

12. Geez. If santorum likes you, you're really fucked up.
I'd hate to have an endorsement like that.

13. On another site I frequent, the right wingers love Lieberman
It's a sports site with a political forum, completely open but the posters mostly lean right. One after another say they prefer Lieberman to many GOP senators and would vote for him as president. This is the hysterical part: some of them actually believe he has a chance to be the Democratic nominee. When I tell them he wouldn't get 3% in a primary they think I'm nuts.
