just when you thought that the Dean endorsement might be the last nail in the coffin-

imagine if Kerry/Mcauliffe and the Dems are actually able to make campaign hay out of "AWOL" this time around...

poor al...he just can't land a break.

1. Well, ya know. Just when we think he may have reached
the level of what you say Big Doofus, I'm sure there is more stuff out there he can do to shoot himself in the foot and face before GE 2004.
I do know he'd better not think about taking another run for President again, no 2008 no 2012 no cabinet positions, no nothin.

Maybe Ambassador to Grenada or something. But that is as good as it's gonna get for poor ole' Al

18. Um, not to burst anyone's bubble ..
.. but Gore would wipe the field if he were running. Aside from Big Dog, Gore is far and away the most popular democrat in the party. Gore has consistantly outpolled all democrats and, when included in polls, has matched up better against Bush than any other democrat.

So no more Gore bashing, please.

30. Gore could not win in this climate. We need some one new
Gore ain't new. I'm not bashing but I was so dissapointed he couldn't win his home state.

That says a lot. I don't think Al can do it now and not later.

He'd be a great party chairman though.

2. Things keep going this way
Al might have to start a punk rock band, seeing how Tipper has lightened up on the PMRC BS.

34. Only if the band covers "2 Live Crew"...
Ya know, for all Tipper's ranting and raving about the "evils" of rock music, she managed to miss the fact that her own son was developing what seems to be a major substance-abuse problem. Oh well, she was probably too busy "in commitee." Get your own house in order before you start preaching morals to the rest of the world, that's what I say.

Somewhere, Zappa is grinning...

3. thank you Al
As Senator you were the big pusher of what we call the "Internet."
Have you thanked all for having great forums like this??? The neo-cons are out and about sniffing around to devour any opposition with any means neccesary. Why stop there? Lets see how General Clark and Sen. Kerry compare....lets dig some background on each and the merits will show forth. General Clark has my support hands down. What do you think?

I just don't see it as a way to win the election. The only people this issue resonates with are the people who already hate shrub.

8. I agree to some extent.
I don't like it when EITHER party tries to win an election by relying on attacks on something other than a candidate's policy. But when you look at how George Bush has himself portrayed as a valiant Holy warrior while the Republicans ran despicable ads against former Senator Cleland who lost three limbs in Nam... well, you sort of get some pleasure from seeing Bush's image shattered. I would like it even more if his New England-birth and Andover and Yale education would be discreetly brought up to destroy his sought after "simple American cowboy" image.

It might not resonate with moderates, but it makes me seethe. And when I seethe, I vote.

10. Woodward's a Republican?
Didn't he expose Nixon? Are you only calling him a Republican because he said that about Dean. I support Dean mostly because Kerry has called him a protectionist. That Gore endorsement, however, keeps my support of Dean very tenuous.

17. Yes he's a Republican.
Remember the scene in All the President's Men when he tells a shaky witness he understands her ambivalence about spilling the beans because he's a Republican too? In the movie, Dustin Hoffman shoots an amazed look at an abashed Redford.

See also Woodward's whoring for the Bushist war machine.

7. I think that Gore did the best he could after all the media was
really going after him over stupid things (liked clothes, hair, INTERNET, etc.)and every time there was a debate the media would say Bush won because the people didn't expect as much from him. We will probably have the same in this election. If he had brought up Bush's military record they would have crucified him.

19. Burt Worm, I think it's because Repug /Bush Suck Up/Woodward said
Al Gore's endorsement of Dean was what cost him the elections.

If it's something else maybe the others here can tell you when they finish tearing Gore (our true President) apart for whatever reason they are doing this. :nuke:

13. I'm sorry... what's the point of this?
Gore was one of the first prominent Democrats to actually show some spine and stand up to Bush and the Republicans last year. For this he gets made fun of ? Called a doofus? I know you're probably still pissed about him endorsing Dean but give him a little bit of the credit he deserves. Where were the other candidates while Gore was taking it Bush? Oh yeah, they were voting for his little wag-the-dog Iraq War.

37. I am afraid the DU we knew is a thing of the past....
And this thread illustrates it to a T.

The Kerry ascension will put the final nail in the coffin whose construction began three months agao with the launching of the "Stop Dean Movement."

And now we have gratuitous and unprovoked villification of Gore, one of the only Dem leaders who spoke out against Bush's criminal march to war last year and in 2002, when it mattered.

It's a freaking shame, really.

28. Al Gore
Was one of the earliest and loudest crtics of the war and of the Patriot Act. When most of our presidential candidates were still quietly calculating where to position themselves for the greatest policial gain, Gore was speaking out with an exceptional level of patriotism and honesty.

To hear people celebrate what they (erroneously) hope will be the "last nail in his coffin" just goes further towards convincing me that most democrats are, just like republicans, self-centered opportunists for whom principles only matter when they are convenient.

31. Gore is beloved by most party members ....
And he has a free speech right to declare his support for one candidate over another, if he see's fit ....

I love Dr. Dean ... he is a great Democrat ...

I respect Kerry, ... a great american hero ...

I adore Kucinich, Sharpton and the others who have CHAMPIONED the cause of the Democratic party ...

I also love Albert Gore ... win or lose: .. he is a good man ....

LEAVE the character assassination to the opposition ... this is unbecoming of a Democrat ....

YOU DONT have to like every damned thing another person does to respect them overall ...

STOP doing the right's dirty work ....
