Rahm nixes second term, DCCC has $24 million on hand
Emanuel has been a leading strategist, fundraiser, cheerleader and recruiter for House Democrats as chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) since the beginning of last year. His uncommon pairing of cunning efficiency and profanity-laced outbursts has won him both plaudits and opprobrium, but nearly all Democrats concede that he deserves substantial credit for their rosy election prospects this year.

Although most DCCC chairmen serve only a single term, many Democrats welcomed Emanuel’s presence and held out hope he would serve a second term. Emanuel’s comments came just as the DCCC was releasing its latest fundraising total. The DCCC raised $5.5 million in May, slightly behind its rival, the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC), which raised $5.6 million. The Democrats finished the month with $24.5 million on hand, compared with $21.9 million for the Republicans.

The DCCC chairman acknowledges that he has had a rocky relationship with some colleagues.

“There’s no doubt I could change my style and be more patient,” he conceded, noting that his wife had suggested they name a fourth child Patience as a “subtle reminder.”

But he argues that he does not play favorites.

“I am impatient, I’m impatient with everybody. ... I push the Blue Dogs as hard as I push the New Democrats as hard as I push the CBC. Either you do or don’t believe this is a historical election.”

He lamented a lack of effort from some of his colleagues.

“I’ve ruffled feathers with a purpose. There’s a sclerosis that’s set in. I’ve ruffled feathers of elder members of caucus with intention of recruiting younger members. I’ve ruffled of New Democrats and Blue Dogs. I’ve ruffled feathers, no doubt about it.”

1. He and Dr. Dean have clashed over the 50-state strategy...
I'm hoping the new chairman will be a little less middle-of-the-road and more progressive.

...can raise money the way Emmanuel can.

3. In typical DLC fashion, Rahm thinks this is all about him.
As if pleasing his 200 collegues has anything to do with anything, or that it would pull in enough votes to win in the fall.

Dear Rahm
This Progressive Democrat and others are tired of you and your fellow DLC member's failing election strategies and tired of your support of the corporatist agenda and tired of your support of Bush's failed war.

9. We get it. George Washington was the first DLCer.
Everything good in history was really a dlc idea.

Everything bad in history was really a leftist idea.

Different day, but sadly still the same tired song from some dlc apologists.

begin snip from the OP;

“There’s no doubt I could change my style and be more patient,” he conceded, noting that his wife had suggested they name a fourth child Patience as a “subtle reminder.”

But he argues that he does not play favorites.

I am impatient, I’m impatient with everybody. ... I push the Blue Dogs as hard as I push the New Democrats as hard as I push the CBC. Either you do or don’t believe this is a historical election.”

He lamented a lack of effort from some of his colleagues.

I’ve ruffled feathers with a purpose. There’s a sclerosis that’s set in. I’ve ruffled feathers of elder members of caucus with intention of recruiting younger members. I’ve ruffled of New Democrats and Blue Dogs. I’ve ruffled feathers, no doubt about it.”

end snip from the OP

Now tell us all how many times Mr. Rahm uses the words I or I'm in that tiny snippet? Pointing out the facts, is not bashing. Rahm thinks this is about him, his own words reflect that notion. Deal with it.

Corporate Donations Shift Left

Companies in the insurance, pharmaceuticals and tobacco industries are boosting their share of contributions to Democrats this year, an indication that the traditionally Republican-friendly donors suspect Dems may soon end up holding the reins of power.

6. Raising money is only half the plan, spending it is the other half.
Rant on

If we have a 50 state candidate program why not a 50 state spending program? I look at Texas and see how the state party is spending money and it just pisses me off no end. Huge amounts of money spent on no contest races and nothing for the grass roots types that need the help.

My guy, David Harris, is running against Joe Barton. Barton has $2.5 million in oil and telcom money. Dave can't get a scrap from the DCCC or the state party 'cause he hasn't raised a quarter million on his own. Give me a fucking break! If a fresh start like Dave could raise a quarter million he wouldn't need the GD money from the state or DCCC. Shit, give the guy a hundred grand and he can raise the rest!

Meanwhile I get campaign donation solicitations from Hillary Clinton down here in Texas. WTF? She doesn't have a credible opponent and she's asking for money from me in Texas?? Why the hell is her campaign spending money like that?

Rant off

29. It takes a tough nut in a job like that
He didn't always do what I wanted him to do, but I never expected 100% satisfaction. He's done a great job for the DCCC.

63. He did his job.
Not appreciated by our more embarrassingly uninformed yet loud and obnoxious faux radicals here at DU, and I'm talking about a handful of people here. They are so obsessed with their own gnashing of teeth they have lost all sense of reason and, quite frankly, grip on reality. They won't be satisfied until America is in shambles, then they can contemptuously point to the pile of rubble and say, see, I told you so. They have no interest in a real plan to take back the reins of Congress from the real perpetrators of chaos - the Republicans.

But this time in our history is no different than the last several elections when the self-righteous but lazy and oh so angry disgruntled few bellow their epithets and jingos and scorched earth rhetoric, ridiculing any and all efforts to make meaningful progress, recruiting the confused and the downtrodden with their "us" versus "them" rhetoric, meaning them versus the majority of those left of center. Not content to participate in the primary process to make our representatives accountable, they spend their time and energy with their incessant day after day battle against HRC, DLC, HRC, DLC, HRC, DLC, seeming to forget the outrages de jour perpetrated by this administration.

Yes, Rahm did his job and kudos to him for that. I never expected to agree with him on everything. Those oozing vitriol on the internets haven't a clue what it takes to get down in the trenches.

72. credit where due
Emmanuel pushed his organization a little farther down the road. He raised a lot of money for the Democrats. IMO the good far outweighed the bad.

Now, if he and the rest of you right-wingers could acknowledge the damage supporting the occupation of Iraq has wrought on the country, we'd be home free.
