During Frontline last night, it suddenly switched to Charley Rose..
an old show with an interview with a younger Larry King. We were just stunned and looked at each other, like oh no, here goes the program. It was sudden, and scary. Scary like all the PBS NOW shows our local affiliate fails to show.

It did switch back to Frontline in about a minute.

Anyone else have that happen?

How would that happen, would it come from the local affiliate or what? We were watching on Dish Network. They were showing cartoons during two important PBS shows about the war months ago. I was on the phone with a Dish Network supervisor with the Dish showing cartoons and cable showing the shows....same channel WEDU.

The supervisor denied it was their fault, but I stayed on with him. He finally admitted they were streaming cartoons instead of PBS.

I know I am supposed to be thankful we got the show Frontline back, but it was hollow after the shock of seeing a years old Rose/King interview.

Glad I taped it, or no one would believe me.

1. I think it was part of the Dark Side program. I think it showed contrast
of something stated then and this century. I need to watch again.

6. I don't think it was part....it interrupted something very interesting.
I am going to go back to the tape, find it, and see what was right before it. Haven't had time to do that yet this morning.

13. If true that it interrupted something - it won't be the first time. Air

America has suffered lost signals many times when some guest was saying something that I was listening hard to hear.

George Orwell - come sit down here and observe your vision play out in the 21st century. We won't criticize you for being a little off in the year for which it is finally sinking in for some. Some of got it in 1994, others in 1984.

Relearning our history is painful.

It started for me in November 1963, but is was gullible on so many things. Really, really gullible.

George Orwell, what was your gift that allowed you to 'see' for us?

And if I can ask another question - why are the figureheads of all this loss and destruction both named George?

2. You need to figure out what was in that content that they didn't want you
to hear.

5. I think the entire program is online Thursday.
I am determined to figure it out, but just not sure how to proceed. I called our local PBS station last week about not even showing NOW at all, the one with David Sirota. They always say it was their fundraising week.

This was just so odd. It was just before 11:00, I think.

3. Yep...I saw that too...

It was at a critical moment...I can't remember precisely what it was, but it felt like they were self-editing that portion...I taped it too. I'm not able to access the tape right now, so I can't tell you exactly what the point was....maybe about Wilson...

4. Lots of odd interruptions have been happening with my Time-Warner
Cable with PBS and then there was the interruption of the Kos Panel in Las Vegas when C-Span said they had to cancel coverage because of "Technical Difficulties."

Also my NPR Radio station regularly goes dead for a minute or so when there's any discussion of Dem issues (it's been doing that for years here in NC) yet never went out when I used to listen when I lived in the Northeast.

MSNBC's Hardball has had incidents where whole Q&A segments with Dems have been garbled as to the sound. (Time-Warner Cable) again. I wondered if this was nationwide because the second time it happened Matthews got a weird look when the garbling was going on and re-asked a question of Walter Pincus who was talking about Iraq. Matthews said "Let's try this question again..."

Lot's of odd things with transmissions when there's an important discussion or an important person talking about something not favorable to Bush.

I'm sorry to hear your problem with "Dish" because I've gotten so sick of my Time-Warner cable I've wanted to switch to satellite...and Dish seems to offer more than the other one that DU'ers were promoting a couple of years ago as an alternative to Murdoch. Seems Murdoch's "Dish" carries more independent stations or something like that.

With MSNBC and CNN in total lockdown once again pumping the Chimp...it's so frustrating but there doesn't seem to be an alternative unless I sit in front of my computer or am within hearing a stream of the alternative media. My local AirAmerica has as bad a reception as NPR...and I live in a large city.

7. We had a Comcast Amber Alert notice.
Call me cynical, but I wonder when that girl went missing.

12. If it was censored, there are more subtle ways to do that...
If they wanted to censor certain content, they can just snip it out before the show airs in ways that no one would notice.

15. It was right at 11:00, one hour in....nothing to do with content.
I posted what I saw. I posted about my experiences with our Dish Network streaming cartoons for hours instead of showing PBS content, and then telling me they were not.

If I had not been in a pissed off mood, I would never have gotten the supervisor to admit they were doing it.

It was not part of the program, so I asked. If it does not bother you, fine and dandy, Armstead.

It bothered us greatly. It was in the middle of someone named Carl Ford, Jr. speaking about Tenet.

17. I will agree that it's annoying...
I didn't mean to demean your basic frustration. I guess my reaction is to all of the times such things are cited as conspiracies here on DU. IMO, there are plenty of valid complaints and accusations to be made about the media (I make them myself). But often things happen for reasons that are either more shallow or innocuous than we think.

We have a funky old cable system that regularly goes out at the first sign of rain. When it happens in the middle of something interesting, I want to throw my shoe at the TV.

In the case of PBS, if the show was still on at 11 p.m., then it had an odd running time. And if the station's computers were programmed to pick up the Charlie Rose feed at 11 p.m. and nobody bothered to change the computer to account for that, then it would easily explain what happened.

As for the otehr glitches with PBS, it may also have something to do with switchovers that are being made as local stations add new digital channels. Many are offering second or third channels with either specialty shows or their regular programming at different times. In the process, a lot can go wrong while they set it up and get the bugs out....That's happenbed on our cable and pbs stations.

18. King was on Charlie Rose last night.
I just checked the show's website. But that is not the picture we saw of Larry King, it was older.

I would be inclined to say you might be right, but it was a different show that is shown.

20. Rose doesn't come on here until 12:00. Just checked to be sure.
I don't watch it often, so I was not sure. There is a show called independent lens before it at 11:00 or 11:30.

9. Not just one station
We had the same glitch on Comcast on our Georgia PBS. It doesn't sound like it was an interruption on just one station, cable or satellite transmission. More like a glitch in the tape itself from Frontline.

16. Almost exactly 11:00, one hour in.
Someone named Carl Ford, Jr. was speaking, and then came Rose and Larry King, and they were saying something about a blue car and program scheduling changing suddenly.

Nothing to do with the Frontline program at all.

19. Local station carrying Bill Press in the mornings
(okay, "local" meaning it broadcasts out of Canton and barely makes it to parts of Cleveland and calls itself Akron - much like its sister station with the RW a-hole morning guy)

sometimes cuts to "Mancow" at 6:30am . . .
