1. We are ridiculed elsewhere

I believe some of the newcomers are a result of our board being ridiculed elsewhere. As I observe some other boards, I am seeing more and more links to here and ridicule about our emotions - and now they are harping about our reaction to the Rove injustice! Sometimes I wish we were a private board.

And for whoever asked, I do care. This kind of ridicule has been going on for all the years I've been on discussion boards. constant negative references to the DU. Sucks!

2. I believe the influx of new members is a direct result of the level of

unhappiness in this country. People, in general, are not happy with what is going on. They know they are being lied to, manipulated, abused, and spied on.

They are losing their jobs, with no quality jobs being created to replace the ones lost. They see outsourcing, cronyism, arrogance, discrimination, and bigotry from our elected majority.

They are looking for answers, for help, and for comfort. I expect the membership numbers here to explode as we head into Fall. It's great to see so many new people, there is so much information here it's mind-boggling. If you have a question, it's a certainty that someone here has the answer.

I have found that to be true that the folks here are quick to answer questions. I've even had them sent to my inbox. A good group for sure.

BUT, I don't like to see us ridiculed on other boards. That goes too far.

This morning, I spotted a car with two bumper stickers: "Don't blame me - I voted for Kerry" and "Protect America - Defeat Bush".

I left a note on the windshield, pointing him to 1350AM (local lefty station, playing Bill Press, Stephanie Miller, local lefty Joe Finan, Al Franken, Ed Schultz, Randi Rhodes, etc.) and DU (along with "zbdent").

Don't know if he had been here before, but maybe he will.

I'm talking "Akron Ohio" - even though it's really based in Canton (for tax purposes). Kinda like how 1100AM in Cleveland is really based in Independence Ohio - just barely across the border of the "city limits".

And to think, the afternoon drive blowhard Rush-lite used to complain about the "Richfield Cavaliers" before the Cleveland Cavaliers returned to Cleveland . . .
