Just received this from the GOP (moved from General)
February 3, 2004

Dear (Me),

Democratic attacks on President Bush have reached a new low in the form of false accusations and innuendo about the President's honorable service in the National Guard.

First, activist Michael Moore called President Bush a "deserter." Then, former Democratic Senator Max Cleland said President Bush "didn't even complete his tour."

Finally, this past Sunday, Democratic National Committee Chairman Terry McAuliffe, accused the President of being AWOL, describing the President's service in the National Guard by saying, "George Bush never served in our military in our country."

These are the kinds of vicious, personal attacks we can expect to face as the Democrats try anything to defeat President Bush. Don't let them succeed. Please donate today - $100, $75, $50, $25, even just $5 will help us answer these shameful attacks and tell America the truth - that President Bush is an honorable man working to make our country safer and stronger both at home and abroad:

Sadly, none of the Democratic Presidential candidates, including John Kerry, will repudiate these slanderous attacks against our President.

"I don't even know what the facts are," Kerry said yesterday.

However, a man seeking the presidency has an obligation to get the facts straight before he sends his surrogates out to slander the Commander-in-Chief. Don't let the Democrats get away with these false accusations against President Bush. You have the power to answer these attacks by going to:

The facts are simple: President Bush served honorably in the National Guard and he was honorably discharged. Today, he serves as our Commander-in-Chief. Peter Jennings called the accusation by Michael Moore, "a reckless charge, not supported by the facts," and the Annenberg Center at the University of Pennsylvania has said that the charges are unfounded.

Thank you for your continued support. We're counting on you to help re-elect President Bush this November.

1. note that they can't talk specifics..

And it's the specifics of this issue that show Chimpy as a privileged child of the rich avoiding dangerous duty in Vietnam, even with poor test scores, and then not even doing the champagne duty he was supposed to.

6. Totally. I was
expecting the web-link to provide some kind of proof (heck even a photo of Dubya in his National Guard get-up would be something) -- but no -- just "give us yer money, sucka's!".

It's taken four years, but maybe, just maybe, this issue might get some traction.

3. I think (at least hope) this will seriously backfire on the repugs.
They want to campaign as being strong on national defense, the want to scare people into thinking we are in a constant state of war, they want to portray the dems as soft on national defense and weak with foreign policy. They can't have all this war talk and show themselves as a war mongering pResident and administration and then refuse to answer to the charges of the chimps shaky military career. I don't see how it can work for them! If you want to be a war monger, show the country that you served your country dutifully just like all the troops are now being forced to do.

At best, if he wasn't AWOL or a deserter, he received special treatment and that isn't a luxury the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan have right now. I bet they wish they did.

They are shooting themselves in the foot right now and making themselves look bad.

4. I love how the "the facts are simple" line
doesn't address the charges in the first paragraphs. :eyes:

7. His "honorable service in the
National Guard?" HONORABLE SERVICE IN THE NATIONAL GUARD? Not ONE mention of the fact that he never even bothered to show up for the last year? WTF??????? Can you just imagine if this had been a Dem, how they would have never let it off the news, and certainly wouldn't have called it "honorable?" Jeebus, I'm so fucking sick of these hypocritical, ignorant, deceptive, arrogant, fuckhead wingnuts!

And also NOT ONE FUCKING WORD about how he's trashing the VA and its budget, and all of the other nasty shit he's pulling on our vets and current service personnel.

8. Typical Framing and Double speak.
My Favorite,

"However, a man seeking the presidency has an obligation to get the facts straight before he sends his surrogates out to slander the Commander-in-Chief. Don't let the Democrats get away with these false accusations against President Bush. You have the power to answer these attacks by going to:"

But obvously according to the RNC the Commander-in-Chief does not have an obligation to get the facts straight before he sends our sons and daughters to die in an illegal war !!!!!

12. Precisely. No matter what you think of JK, he was THERE, and
those of us old enough to remember it know that counts for a LOT!

Of course, that was back when we actually saw the coffins and the wounded returning home.

Mommy never told *it* that it's not nice to play war with HUMAN BEINGS. I wonder why?
