8. They need the money
to fund their spy operations in the USA, and to pay their agents in the Pentagon. These things can cost quite a lot of money you know.

13. The Likkud lobby
spreads money generously around to the congresscritters.

Not much different from giant tax giveaways to Exxon/Mobile, etc, except that the Likkudnicks have too much influence on our foreign policy and that gets waaaay more expensive in terms of lost treasure and lost lives.

I wonder if we'll ever learn..

18. We pay Israel and Egypt not to fight.
Of course, it's been decades now, and the money in Israel goes to anti-democratic things like murder of innocent Palestinians...

Not sure what it goes for in Egypt, but I'll bet it's equally unsavory.

10. '...absorption of new immigrants

code for new illegal settlements.

They need the money 2 keep construction of the apartheid wall going. Our tax dollars 2 Israel go w/ no strings attached - the ONLY country that gets aid from US that way. The money goes in2 their general fund 2 be used as they see fit - right now it is building the wall.

NOT IN MY NAME!

19. No strings attached?
Supposedly if Israel develops nukes we're not allowed to give them cash. And as far as I know, this law was never repealed.

Right hand meet left... now fvck yourselves.

--------------

Don't get me wrong. I am not anti-SEMITIC, I am anti-ZIONIST - as are a large number of Jews. Israel's right to exist is similar to a putative claim by the indians regarding Manhattan (as if they'd want it back). Yet I accept the fait accompli and Israel exists - it is a polity, a nation - and has a right to exist.

But it DOESN'T have the right to crap on the Palestinians, international law and common sense.

I've spent some time in Israel. I like the country, I like the people, I like the food, Tel Aviv's nightlife is OK. But driving from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem shows a picture of Aparthied that no amount of propaganda can erase, you just have to see the separate roads with their roadblocks, the difference between the 1st and 3rd worlds by just crossing a line WITHIN THE SAME COUNTRY. And most of those who go through the roadblocks are Israeli citizens - just not Jews.

The roadmap... ... the ROADMAP ...:hide: ... THE ROADMAP :puke:

Wake up uhmurca

17. something for nothing?
Israel is the largest recipient of US largesse because it earns it. functioning as the American proxy in the fractious Middle East has been no easy task. Of course now that the Cold War is dead and buried, that bottomless pocket is quuickly shrinking. As we see with next years package, AID is finished. Military AID is kicked up a notch but only as a payoff for the Gazan "Disengagement/Withdrawal" and a positive reinforcement for the proposed "West Bank" pullout. The military package is set to be phased out as well over the coming decade.
