Poll question: Which candidate would fare best if we don't win back the House or Senate?
Edited on Wed Feb-04-04 11:59 AM by boxster
Easy enough question. Which candidate would be best able to work with a Congress still controlled by the Republicans? Or, perhaps more to the point, which candidate is in the best position to get agenda items through a Republican Congress?

Heaven forbid that happens, of course, but it's obviously in the realm of possibility. To have legitimate hope of salvaging the train wreck created by the Bush Administration, I think we need to get back at least the Senate.

With apologies to Sharpton and Kucinich supporters, I'm including only those candidates that I personally believe have any chance of winning the nomination at this point.

Edit: typo

1. I chose Clark
This is still a 50/50 country. The repubs will never work with Democrats, never really have.
Some of the Democrats will work with the repubs.
The only one that could work with both would be Clark.
We also have to work on breaking the tie especilly in the Senate.
If Kerry & Edwards win the Democratic nomination. We then will have to fight and protect (COUNT THEM) 7 Senate seats. Thats 7.

2. It would be rather ironic if some of the biggest criticisms of Clark
(political newcomer, Republican fundraisers, worked with Republicans, blah, blah) turned out to be his greatest strength as President.

He's obviously worked with administrations of both parties in the past and could very well be the "uniter" GWB claimed he would be.

On the other hand, Kerry's extensive Congressional experience (friends, acquaintences, alliances, etc.) could be very helpful. He knows a zillion people and has worked with Congress forever.

However, there is obviously a lot of cross-party animosity in Congress now, so who knows?

3. The Republicans in Congress are ideologically driven.
They will not be bipartisan, they will not listen to reason, and they will continue to try and force their own legislation through without allowing the Democrats any input. We will need someone who will be willing to call them on it, shine a light on the Congressional cockroaches, and who will be willing to follow through on veto threats. That's why we need Howard Dean.
