Tell me that it's not so (Dean as possible 3rd Party Candidate)
Edited on Wed Feb-04-04 10:46 AM by djg21
I just got an e-mail from a friend who is a devout "Deaniac." In that e-mail, she states that she will join any new political party formed by Deaniacs who share the same values she does.

We've all been through this once before! Please tell me that Dean is not considering a run as a 3rd-Party candidate! If he does, please tell me that most of the so-called "Deaniacs" are smart enough to realize the ramifications that such a candidacy will have!

I think very highly of Dean, and I really will feel betrayed if he even considers such a candidacy. Should he run, I will no doubt grow to despise him as much as I have grown to despise Mr. Nader during these past three years.

Please tell me that its just not so!

1. Just not so
Last night Dean said he will vote for whoever the Democratic nominee is.

3. Not so, but
after this election (in which I'll vote Democratic), I'll be looking around for possible third parties.

13. I wonder how many other Democrats will be doing the same.
I'm guessing a lot.

5. Nope. It ain't so.

The point is, and always has been to remove Bush from office and repair the damage he has caused. Anyone who does not understand this is an idiot.

28. Glad you said it and I didn't--
there's an awful lot of DUers who are going to regret not voting Dem if *it* manages a second term.

6. They would be doing so without their candidate.
Dean is a Democrat and he would have to be certifiably insane to break with the party in the upcoming general election, just as with any other Democratic candidate.

I can appreciate the sentiment - I voted for Nader in 2000 - but a 3rd party just won't do it this time around.

7. Nope, Dean said last night he would support the nominee
Any 3rd party rumors are just coming from truly dispirited supporters, which you have to allow for, give us time to heal, etc., or from people who have nothing but spite for Dean and want him as far away from the Democratic party as possible.

9. You're right that it's not just dispirited supporters
The RW wants Dean to form a third party so Bush can win in November. Of course it won't happen. Dean has said so repeatedly.

11. Its RW crap
Novak on Crossfire

"I've heard rumors that Dean will run as an independent/third party"

yes, KKKarl Rove whispered it in his ear.

if Dean is unsuccessful in his bid for the Presidency of the United States, he will try and change the system by getting the DNC chair when Terry steps down. It will be an attainable feat if Kerry or whoever goes down in flames in Nov.

get ready grassroots, we might have to take the party back before we can take the country.

8. Dean stated AGAIN last night on CNN
that he will support and vote for the Dem nominee no matter who it is. If your friend and other die hard Dean supporters want to form a 3rd pary, they will need a new candidate.

10. Why are all of these Dean people jumping a ship that he is trying
desperately to change? I don't get it. I have heard him say repeatedly that he wants democrats to start acting like democrats again, not abandon the party.

I don't think Dean is going anywhere. I think he will continue to have a national voice and continue to fight the good fight wether he gets the nomination or not.

Edited on Wed Feb-04-04 11:28 AM by YNGW
... that's too bad. I'll more than likely either vote Nader again (if he runs) or the Green Party candidate. Trading Kerry for Bush is "meet the new boss, same as the old boss".

14. Kerry does not equal Bush, Kerry just equals the status quo
Kerry will be a good Democratic President, but he will not fundamentally change how things are done and thus, we might end up with another RW zealot in the office in 4 to 8 years after Kerry.

This is why, if Dean doesn't get the nomination, I hope he takes his movement and turns it into a culture war - fighting to bring back true American values to this country. Let D.C. sink into the swamp it was built on.

15. Where have you been living for the past 3 years?
Because if that is how you honestly feel, I don't think you have been paying attention.

Kerry isn't like *, most republicans aren't like *. I hope your life doesn't suck for the next 4 years and I hope you don't have kids that are "draftable".

17. I'm here, and I see them both as being the same.
On the issues that matter to me, Kerry is the equavalent to *. Good chance your personal issues are different than mine, but I don't vote based upon your issues, I vote on my issues. Kerry will be the "same old, same old".

20. That's too bad.
Kerry might not be the best man for the job but comparing him to bu$h is reprehensible. bu$h is in a class all by himself and there isn't a president in history that has done the damage to this country both domestically and abroad that he has done in 3 short years. If you think Kerry is like * than you must not think as poorly of * as most of us do on DU.

Even Reagan, who I despise, is better than *.

22. wow, insult much?
If these people are Dean supporters, they may be just like me, totally alienated from the Democratic party. I realize that we need to get rid of Bush, but patronize me, push me around a bit, laugh at my pain, and the politics suddenly become personal and I will stop thinking about getting Bush out and start thinking 'tear the system apart.'

Far better not to say anything and let these people heal. Give them room and their reasoning will re-engage and they will realize it is more important to get rid of Bush, because the Dean movement isn't just about electing Dean.

There are simply Dean supporters on a Yahoo group that want it to be that way. There were posts to that degree yesterday.

If he doesn't, he loses all respect I had for him, which, although I wouldn't vote for him, he had the utmost for bringing so much energy to the campaign.

27. Split votes. Green prez, Dem for Senate & house.
No problem here. I'm a Dean fan, but would still vote Green if he tried to form another party. Assuming, of course, that he doesn't get the nod and one of the two pro-war candidates get it.

Dean will not run as a third party spoiler no matter how much some of his supporters would like him to. Even DK isn't going to do that sort of thing. They are democrats.
But Dean has already spoken to that question. Why not take his word for it and ignore the stupid rumors?
