Now that Lieberman has dropped out can you be "ABB"
So many folks made a big deal that they couldn't be "ABB" (Anyone But Bush) because they refused to vote for Lieberman. Personally, I thought Joe would have dropped out after New Hampshire but he hung in there until the Big 7 race yesterday. But as I had said many many times many many months ago that I would always be ABB, I would vote for Lieberman if he got the nomination but I said that because I thought Joe Lieberman would never ever come close to getting the nomination. (and I knew that Joe was pro-choice and pro-environment which was some of his saving grace).

So now, who can join us in saying "ABB all the WAY" now that we have cleared the path with Joe dropping out?

10. Kerry is Definitely My Problem
Edited on Wed Feb-04-04 07:13 AM by FredrickDouglass
It's unfortunate albeit not surprising that Kerry is receiving so much attention and doing so well in the caucuses. It seems that no matter how many times we get the same old, rich politicians, we still beg for more. Does anyone think that Kerry is different? He's the richest senator in the United States. I thought this was what we wanted to get away from...

We have the chance in Kucinich, we have the chance for so many things and I fear we're going to let it slip away.

I'll vote for Kerry, I guess (as opposed to not voting at all), but it's with a sad heart, that I do.

When I hear him talk I see another extrememly wealthy career politician that knows what he MUST say to get where he wants to go. That's all that I see, now.

2. With small exceptions, I agree
I wouldn't vote for Sharpton or Kucinich at gunpoint, but it seems to be between Kerry, Edwards, Clark and Dean, and I'd vote for any of them.

24. ABB....
and ABS. i will not vote for sharpton under any circumstances. likewise i didnt vote for jesse jackson, nor would i vote for a rabbi, a priest, mullah or any other ordained religious leader.

i think that ordained ministers/religious leaders should not be involved in politics, as it IMO violates the first amendment on the establishment of a state religion.

4. No, quite frankly Joe was the least of my worries
When you get each and every single candidate to drop campaign contributions from corporations, PACs and special interest groups, then I can be ABB. Of course when that happens, notify me that the pigs are flying also. I'm not going to vote for ANY corporate whore, I'm looking for a real change in this country, not just a change in the looks of the sock puppet.

5. If Dean should not win, but decided to go third party - I'd vote for him.
Right now I am angry that the "establishment" man is ahead. I've thought about it, and I had rather Sharp ton had won - as long as it is not an Establishment person. and proves that it is really no use in anybody else running. The DNC will see to it that "their" man wins.

Maybe I'll cool off by this afternoon, but right now I could spit nails -grrr.

7. He won't, and although I support him, I'm glad.
A third-party candidate somply cannot win in November which is why, distasteful as it may be, we have to vote for the Democratic candidate.

19. So "Not ABB" is a euphemism for wanting a third party candidate
I don't even want to think about a third party candidate run.

9. If Dean were to not win he'll be support the democratic nomination
Dean won't go 3rd party, it'll be political suicide for him. He's made a name for himself and he's young enough to take another run for president in the next 3-4 presidental elections. Why would he commit political hari kari by going third party?

20. I'm mad about this too
I can't stomach another Wash insider that's taken so much special interests money and I feel the media and the DLC have pushed Kerry from the beginning. They piled on Dean so bad his message hasn't really been heard by most Americans. Its a great message and Dean is a proven leader not afraid to take on tough political battles. He is a highly moral person and says what he means, and doesnt worry about the polls. Thats the type person we need at this time. I dont think Kerry can beat Bush. This ABB stuff is a huge mistake. We need the BEST person in the race...not just anybody.Bush will BEAT just 'anybody'...especially another typical Wash insider with a long disappointing unproductive record. We need a guy that can stand up for whats right for all Americans, not just personal cronies and people he owes favors to.
That's Howard Dean.

13. Yes, BUT...
I've always belived I would have voted even for Joe Lieberman rather than George W. Bush, and I'd vote for John Kerry over Bush. After all, what choice do we have?

But I deeply resent being forced to make these kinds of choices, and I won't CHEERLEAD for a candidate I don't really believe in. If I endorsed Candidate X and promoted him on my website, and Candidate X got elected only to refuse to repeal the Patriot Act or get any of our money back from corporations, my credibility would be shot - and that's something that could come back to haunt me in future election campaigns.

So I think everyone has a responsibility to proceed with this election campaign as mature, thinking adults, rather than blindly put all their eggs in one basket.

I'm really appalled and frightened by the giddiness that seems to have taken hold of so many people since the recent events in New Hampshire. I smell the hand of the corporate media at work.

18. Why are you "appalled and frightened by the giddiness"
of those who have been winning this year? Same thing happens in every primary fight-some people win; they're the happy, excited ones; others lose-they usually are quieter and not so giddy.

Do you blame the people who have won for being happy about it? John Kerry is FAR from my favorite candidate but his supporters deserve the right to clelbrate, LOUDLY, and be as giddy as they please. I know I would be.

14. Trust me, Lieberman was never
a viable candidate. So he's not what keeps me from being ABB. I CANNOT understand why anyone thinks Kerry actually represents real change.

Lucky for me I live in Kansas, which is bound to go for Bush, so I can sit out the election with a clear conscience.

If we actually had direct election of the president my vote would actually count, but since it doesn't, why bother?

15. I'm originally from South Dakota, a very red-necked state, and I now
live in Seattle, land of liberal loons. Eastern Washington is the domain of religious kooks, and the Neo-Nazis have a stronghold in Idaho and northern Washington.

Is there any hope for this country?

However, I wouldn't sit this election out. It's very important that people continue to vote, just to keep the institution alive. Who knows, we may have to teach our children how to vote twenty years from now, when we're digging out of the ruins.

Even then ABB is not a good policy. It demeans the electoral process.
However, when Clark is knocked out next Tuesday I will be AOTCCBB.

23. I would have voted for Joe if I had to...
... because this particular race is not about ideals. It's about regaining power, and we need a Democrat in the White House to do it, period.

26. There is no one out there
that can fulfill all thing that the Democrats want him to. There is no way. Just reading the posts I think everyone has a like or dislike about every' single person running. Different strokes for different folks. The enemy is bush. Keep that in mind. As for a non establishment person winning the nomination that would be nice but we need to beat bush.
