Voting machine 'hacker' runs for congress
Against Congressman who sought to hire him
By Nick Farrell: Wednesday 07 June 2006, 09:43

THE BLOKE who claimed that he was asked by a US elected official to build a program which would hack into electronic voting machines is standing for election.
Clint Curtis is a computer programmer who testified to Congress that he had been requested by Congressman Tom Feeney, to build software that could flip the votes in an electronic voting machine without detection.

snip...
"Until credibility in our elections is restored, we cannot begin to forge solutions to such issues as the War in Iraq, providing healthcare for all Americans, investing in energy independence, instituting an educational system that allows teacher to teach students rather than tests, and above all, being confident that our government is being run by officials who have been elected by the people", he wrote.

He is actually running against the man he testified against, Republican Tom Feeney.

2. Some good background on Curtis' history of whistle blowing
at The Brad Blog

At an October 2000 meeting with Feeney, according to the affidavit and BRAD BLOG interviews with Curtis over the past three days, Feeney inquired whether the company could build a "vote fraud software prototype".

<snip>

Curtis says that Feeney "was very specific in the design and specifications required for this program."

"He detailed, in his own words, that; (a) the program needed to be touch-screen capable (b) the user should be able to trigger the program without any additional equipment (c) the programming to accomplish this needed to stay hidden even if the source code was inspected."

Though there was no problem with the first two requirements, Curtis explained to the Congressman that it would be "virtually impossible to hide such code written to change the voting results if anyone is able to review the uncompiled source code"*

*bold face by me to help people see why computer voting companies are SO insistent about protecting their source codes

Go to the link and read this one. LOTS of tasty morsels that we need more people to be aware of, like what happened after Curtis left the programming company he was at to work for the Florida Dept of Transportation and blew the whistle on his former company for over-billing and not delivering software. The company, YEI, had the brass to sue him for theft of intellectual property, which happened to be the programs the FDOT had ordered from them.

Oh, and Curtis WAS a Republican until all this shit happened.
