So impressed with candidate training by DFA in Tennessee...pics, article.
This group really has impressed me for a long time. They are among the most activist of the DFA groups, especially for being in the South. Good for them.

Class of 2006: DFT's Candidate Training

Mark Naccarato is an organizer for several Tennessee DFA groups, including Democracy for Tennessee, DFA Nashville and Democracy for Clarksville.

It was a great day for democracy in Tennessee as close to 50 candidates and campaign managers, hailing from Memphis to Knoxville and all points in between, gathered at the Downtown Partnership in Nashville for DFT's Candidate Training School. Whether they were running for School Board or U.S. Congress, first time candidates and long-time campaigners alike became DFT students for the day who shared one goal—to take our country back in 2006.

Once the interviews were over, it was time to start the official training. Kicking off the day's events, I explained DFT's mission to elect progressive candidates up and down the ballot all across the state. I also explained Democracy for Tennessee's endorsement process, how to apply, and the resources that DFT can offer to candidates who share our progressive values

Exec Director Tom Hughes, who flew in from VT, returned to wrap up Candidate Training School with his workshop on "Finance and Fundraising". "Fundraising is the thing everyone hates to do but has to do", Tom said. While Tom talked about the importance of fundraising mailers and using email and a website to raise money, he focused the most on "call time" and on how to make The Ask from friends, family, and collegues. Students even had a roleplaying session where they asked the person next to them for a contribution in order to hone their fundraising skills.

"Finally, I'd like to give a big "thanks" to all of the brave men and women who are putting it all on the line to run for office. It isn't easy and all of us at Democracy for Tennessee salute you. With your continued patriotism and dedication to public service, we WILL take our country back!

—Mark Naccarato"

1. One kick before it is archived.
Just for all the effort that went into it.
