Don’t fall for the distractions.
Pickpockets use distraction to divert your attention while they steal your wallet. Senator Frist and the current administration use the same tactic.

With issues like the war in Iraq, potential war in Iran, civilian massacres by US troops, illegal domestic spying, illegal torture of prisoners, congressional corruption, etc., the administration would have us believe that gay marriage and flag burning are the most important issues.

They bring these issues out every election to distract the public from the massive failures of the administration. Did I mention Katrina?

It is sad to see the American public fall for such underhanded and transparent tricks. Of course the media goes right along with the deceptions.

I think it is important for us to ignore the distractions. Tell Fristy-pants to go ahead with the amendments. Call for a vote right now. They don't care a damn about gay marriage or flag burning, they want an uproar from us to help them in their distraction tactic.

Of course if they do propose a bill I would add a few amendments, like if you ban gay marriage then you must include a ban on animal marriage and humans marrying animals, and no marrying aliens from outer space, Republicans can't marry Democrats, etc. I think all these need to be in the bill.

Oops, I started discussing the issue contrary to my ignore advice.

1. I think we need a "No Sin Amendment."

A Freakin' Full Gospel Failsafe Constitutional Amendment to ban all sin.

No longer will we tolerate gluttony and obesity, number one killers in America.

From now on every meal in America will consist of 800 calories or less.

No further will we allow pornography, gambling, phone sex or flavored condoms.

All sex will be male on female, missionary style, no birth control, and no multiple orgasms.

Storing up wealth for oneself is contrary to the Gospels. Everyone has to sell all they have and give the money to the poor.

No divorce, no adultery, no cursing, spitting or eating of anything that does not chew the cud.

No one can work on the Sabbath anymore either. Doctors, law enforcement, firemen and military personnel can no longer do any work on Sundays.

Sorry, I'm really distracted because Dems need to be very vocal in calling this bullshit what it is: an unConstitutional restriction on the right of American adults to practice their own spiritual beliefs.

Be very vocal, while you pay attention to everything else too :hi:

2. I liked your post but disagree with your conclusion.
Most Americans are not even interested in this issue. The amendment will never go anywhere unless we fight it. That would force people to take sides. This is all distraction. This is playing directly into their hands. I am not saying this isn't important, but we need to keep reminding the public that Republicans equal failure in Iraq, Iran, torture, civilian massacres, etc.

4. Not at all...
although I did just fire off a LTTE about the marriage amendment. :)

I agree that we need to keep the pressure on about the failures of the admin and Repb congress.

Keep reminding people that the Repubs have had 6 years of unbroken control and just look at how fucked up things are.
