Well, it's Friday, which means it's time to look in the old mailbag and see what conservative Nobel Laureate tries to give me my comeuppance this week…
Mr. Greg Maddox writes:
would you have rather had <sic> Kerry in office? you should be ashamed of yourself for saying that Vets who march in remembarace <sic> ... should walk with their heads hung in shame. You have no heart and I pity you!!!
I pray that you will change your bitter attitude of <sic> Vets who want to honor this Great Country's fallen.
To which I respond…
Dear Greg;
I'm very fortunate in many ways to have a young son, but one of them is that it helps me deal with right-wing letter writers who have so many reading and writing problems.
Now, Greg, go back and read my Memorial Day column in its entirety (that means the whole thing). I know it's a lot of words but please do it. If you notice, I never said that all Veterans marching on Memorial Day should "walk with their heads hung in shame." What I said was that any Vets who support the Iraq war and the policies of the Bush administration should be ashamed because they are hypocrites, and to some extent responsible for the very deaths they claim to mourn.
Make sense? Good. Now have a cookie.
I'm also sure your question about Senator Kerry was rhetorical, as roughly 70 percent of the country now wishes he were president. But, to help answer your question further, I'm going to give you Bob Geiger's "Top Ten People I Would Rather Have as President Than George W. Bush"
