Leaning Towards Clark in '08' but only if he talks to Gore!
Gore is right. He's much more valuable out of politics -- changing public opinion.

See this interview in the Guardian:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/usa/story/0,,1786437,00.html

"Later I ask Gore if he's moved to the left these past six years. After all, he denounced plans for the coming war in Iraq in September 2002, long before his Democrat colleagues, and he now unashamedly attacks corporate special interests. A flash of anger: "No! If you have a renegade band of rightwing extremists who get hold of power, the whole thing goes to the right. But I haven't moved. I'm where I've always been."

-----------------------------------------

However, I wouldn't support ANY candidate that didn't sign on to Gore's environmental position 100% and who doesn't carry some measure of authority with minimal baggage into the race.

Right now, that appears to be ONLY Clark...

Damn, I hope Clark isn't a pro-death penalty, pro-gun nut!! :)

1. My top ticket would be Gore-Clark
Put Hillary on the Supreme court and Bill in the UN. Dean would be in charge of healthcare. Edwards would be Attorney General. Max Cleland in charge at the VA.

3. Let's put the real smartest guys in the room in charge
Put Wes in charge of protecting America and reforming the military industrial complex.

4. You are killing me, you are so bingo, Right on.
But americans are going to hate it I am telling you.
They hate anything that makes sense or involves being intelligent.

(I keep thinking Clark is the only one who is going to be able to sort out the military..)

11. I think those are two of Wes's greatest dreams.
Just the way you said it. And "raising people up" (to quote the General). Plus the dream he shares with Al Gore, of protecting the planet from total degradation.

17. I wonder though
if Feingold isn't more valuable in the Senate. He should have enough time to be a committee chairman after the Dems take over the Senate, right?

9. Clark's a hunter, but supports sane gun regulations. He says,
"If you like to play with guns, join the Army." Only from him it sounds like a sincere invitation to serve your country, not a "go to Iraq and get your right wing ass shot off" comment, which what it sounds like when I say the same thing.

10. Why do you assume that Gore has the BEST environmental record to match?
Edited on Thu Jun-01-06 09:45 PM by blm
He has a great film out that is very well-researched. On that, he spent his time well.

But, still, why do you assume that no one else would match or go beyond Gore with their own environmental record that has been a part of their own political and actual governance background??

Isn't it interesting to see a person's actual record of how they used the power they had while in governance and what positions they pushed WHILE in power?

12. Didn't Al Gore write a book called "Earth in the Balance" or something
Way back when...like 1992? Wasn't that book pretty accurate on what's happened.

When one couples that book written 13 years ago with a movie made in the present....and appears to be doing quite well (might win some prizes)....Well I have to assume that this guy has had the enviroment on his mind for quite some time!

14. Yes, he has. But, there are records to indicate that others have stellar
credentials on the environment, too - and going back to 1972.

13. I think that you just made a point that summarizes why these two
Edited on Thu Jun-01-06 10:32 PM by FrenchieCat
are tops in my book. Both are not really "in" politics, and therefore don't have to pander and have nothing to lose...really.

Both appear to be more interested in making a difference right now, then caculating what's in it for "them" down the road.

Both are authentic and not big political phonies.....

Both have been married forever, and seem to have always been interested in public service.

Both have the type of experience that translates into leadership.

Both were "right" about the Iraq disaster.

Those are the attributes that makes them strong.

In reference to the Death Penalty and Wes Clark....read this:
http://talkleft.com/new_archives/004458.html

and also this:
Q: Do you support the death penalty?
A: I believe the death penalty should be available for the most heinous crimes. At the same time, I am concerned about reports of mistakes on death row, and errors and unfairness in our criminal justice system. ... If we are to carry out the ultimate penalty, it must be with the ultimate safeguards.

Concerned about Three Strikes & emphasis on lockup
"I'm concerned about the lock-up policy, the 3-strikes policy, putting people in jails and the way we've treated people in prison. We've got to look seriously at the American penal system and what it does when it returns people.to the streets."

16. Thanks for the references
This is a VERY important issue to me.

I don't think the death penalty for humans makes any sense -- it has NO value. Anyone who says they're for it is ignorant of what it really is and how it corrodes society. Anyone who says they are against it except is an idiot.

Now a death penalty for corporations -- That would be GREAT!!! Especially is it's applied Retroactively!!

18. there was a small ray of hope
in his reponse against three strikes (3 strikes is another SHITTY idea).

He is one of the rare few who actually question the way our fellow citizens who are incarcerated are treated.

He may even see that those people who make a mistake and are 'caught' (especially if they're a person of either the wrong color or of low economic circumstances) should be helped toward rehabilitation rather than mindlessly punished.

I guess Clark is a hell of a better "Christian" than nearly all the rest of the politicians.

19. I'm a little confused
What is it you want Clark to talk to Gore about? Clark has had an equally strong environmental position to Gore's all along. Is there something specific you have in mind you think Clark is wrong about and Gore is right about that Clark needs clarification on?
