Why did Clark do so much better in Oklahoma?
He did great in Oklahoma...

Why didn't he place better in other states.

BTW - the speech he's giving now is very, very good....

1. Oklahoma is the heartland.
More diverse than Iowa or New Hampshire.

14. Not quite true.
He's been leading there for a long time.

The first SurveyUSA poll I saw back in December had Clark ahead, pulling over 30% of the vote.

9. Now that's not right
It's because we live in a "red" state and being electable is really important. There is also some of the anti-Yankee sentiment too.
Okies have been the butt of many a joke and we don't like it.
If we feel like giving a raspberry to a New Englander, then turn about is fair play.

5. He poured his money there
He made it his last stand and eked out a win. And congratulations to him for that.

6. As a 50 year Okie, I have to say if I knew the answer to that, I'd be a
political advisor. This state is uh, just weird. 90% of our state legislators (and governor now) are Democrats, but we (moi disincluded) vote for Repugs in nat'l elections. :eyes: :silly: :grr:

16. Really??
Well we have to figure that out. How do the Democrats legislate differently in Oklahoma than at the national level?

7. Huge American Indian population--he presented a platform they
liked. Received major endorsements from American Indian leaders and newspapers. A GOTV effort by Indians.

The counties with the largest Indian population went for Edwards.

8. He did about the same in Arizona
30% in Oklahoma. 27% in Arizona. 24% in North Dakota. 22% in New Mexico.

Clark didn't seriously contest Missouri or South Carolina.

11. Well, first of all..
he did place 2nd in 3 other states aside from his win in Oklahoma..the only way he could have placed better was to win them, but Kerry has the big mo right now.

The places that he placed below 2nd in were states that he didn't fight very hard for: Delaware (not exactly Clark's key region), Missouri (went heavily for Kerry after Gephardt withdrew), and South Carolina (Edward's to win w/ Kerry challenging him after gaining the momentum).

12. He just did GOOD tonight
Winning 3 solid second-place wins and Oklahoma, that puts his campaign into serious forward motion in the eyes of the public and it gives him a much-needed boost going into the next round of primaries coupled with a HUGE boost in delegates.

17. I think huge is generous
looks like 43 for the General, 59 for Edwards and 112 for Kerry.

Thats good but I'm not sure huge is really accurate.
