I think this is Edwards' night
Sure, John Kerry won 5 of 7 and finished a strong second in the rest, but he was already the front-runner coming in. With a big win in South Carolina and a tie in Oklahoma, John Edwards takes the "Southern alternative" mantle from Wesley Clark and cements his place as the prime challenger to the John Kerry avalanche. I liked the way that he had the guts to say that he HAD to win SC or else, instead of trying to anticipate a potential embarrassing loss. Not to take anything away from Kerry's domination in the states that he won, which is exceptional as well. But I think John Edwards gained more from tonight than John Kerry, which is saying a lot since Kerry absolutely kicked ass in big states like Missouri.

1. Edwards did pretty well in Missouri too
he was polling pretty low there, I was hoping he'd crack 15% and he ended up with 27%, as of now.

2. I think that Edwards probably wishes he had made another trip to OK
His margin of victory in South Carolina is much larger than the tracking polls had indicated. I think that in retrospect, Edwards probably wishes he'd spent a little more time in Oklahoma.

4. gotta tend the homefires first
and a tie is about as good as a win.

Give Clark his due, he put most all his marbles on OK and the rest where Edwards was not focusing. If Edwards does more in Arizona he probably gets really competetive there.

He does all this on a shoestring and he's prepped for next week.

There were disappointments for Clark (remember how SC was supposed to be his ? He finished below Sharpton.) and none for Edwards.

NOt quite the night I had hoped for but very good nonetheless.

6. Clark wouldn't have dropped out anyways...
...and I think we got more delegates from the big win in South Carolina than we could have in Oklahoma.

The battle will start again in Virginia and Tennessee. I'll be doing my part here in the Commonwealth...

official delegate count from Oklahoma

Clark- 15
Edwards- 13
Kerry- 12

Really we should have 14 since we were so much closer to Clark and Kerry was 8,000 votes behind us.

5. Nah, it's Kerry's night
I'm backing Edwards, but the whole Edwards/Clark battle feels like being happy that your team made the Sweet Sixteen. Kerry is into the Final Four (metaphorically speaking).
